Has anybody put an 044/046 carb on a 024, 026, MS260? I have the carb and a 038 intake boot for the swap. I'm just looking for ideas on how to hook up the choke. I would like to get rid of the choke out of the air filter. How did you hook up the choke on yours?

I could but that would be a pain to have to carry a bottle to start it to cut firewood.

It's not too bad. A lid full will do it. That's how I started a couple of the that didn't have choke butterflies.

Brings up the question, if you have an 026 turned up strong enough that it needs an 044 carb, is it still a firewood saw? (Of course it is, it's cutting firewood right? :p )

    What filter are you using?

It is actually a 024 super with a MS260 topend. I am going to port it myself. I have read the 044 carb wakes them up. I got an 044 carb so I guess I'll find out how well it works. I can use the 024 air filter, just enlarge the opening. I am hoping I can get rid of the choke from the air filter.

"Choke in the air filter" you know I've often wondered why some manufacturers persist doing this. Doesn't really make much sense to me, all the extra engineering and cost, when you could just use a carb with a built in choke and be done with it! Makes the filter cost more to the end user. Perhaps I'm missing something, it just doesn't make any sense. Choke in the filter does not work any better than in the carburetor IME.

Poor design IMO. The partner 5000 used the same design while the "re badged" Jred 490 used a guillotine style in the filter that was an improvement in flow at least....
