Walked into the taxidermist to drop off my wife's deer tonight and saw this. My jaw dropped! Dang that is huge! Granted it is farm raised but wow. 400"+
Poor deer probably had a hard time holding it's head up. Impressive yes but I'd hate to see what that deer cost.
Taxidermist said it was a 3 yr old buck, so not even a mature deer yet. A mature deer would be a 4+ yr old deer. He scored over 400", to put the into perspective a wild deer at 170" goes into the all time Boone and Crocket record books. I'm not a big fan of deer that big bc of farming, a deer wasn't made to carry that much weight on his head. I was told this one did have trouble keeping his head up and the horns are what led to his death, got an infection at the bases that lead to infection in his blood and killing him.
swags , with what you described, the life of that deer belonging to that rack must have been abnormal. Poor fella suffered due to the weight and ultimately an infection. It can't be normal to have such a burden.
Impressive! I've seen a few deer farms. While it's really cool to see, those genetic freaks fed crazy proteins and all that, it's sad some jack wagon with a large wallet and small....um yea....has to get his man card by shooting something in a cage albeit a large one. All that crap aside, it reminds me of the hole in the horn buck. Super impressive, especially for a 3.5yo.
Your right it's not normal and like bocefus78 said its someone with a big wallet on the other end of the deal. The demand is there so people will always grow them. I'm personally not for hunting like that but it is legal so I won't bash someone for doing it.
Have you been reading about the CWD problem. That right there scares me and I sure hope they keep it contained. If it gets out of the deer preserves it could be a devastating blow to Ohio's deer population.
Yes I saw that, most of the farmers killed off the herds that were infecte but I know one didn't. They re doing what they can and testing periodically so I hope it stays contained. Wouldn't be good for our wild population.
We have that in our species here as well. Chronic wood disorder. Hope it doesn't spread too much. Price will go up.
