My cousin is having a Shingle Oak taken down by The power company. Since they created the dangerous tree trimming job, it had a power line going strait through it. I'm not sure how much I'll end up with. But it should be a slug load. He hired a company to knock the rest of the tree down and to do the brush.
I'm just hoping they cut them fairly long so I can cut them to length. So far they have a few big limbs down, but all is covered up in the small stuff... This has been in the works for a while. I'm just hoping it works out good. Cause there is a lotta of wood there...
That looks like a monster! You got a big enough saw yet?? Hopefully they'd ask what the homeowner wants done with it, if it's their tree. Less work for them if they don't gotta cut it all up and move it too.
That is a nice one !! Big tree for being so close to homes or that fence. If its a power company job those guys cut it in small pieces around here but not sure what its like where your at. Probably 3-4 cord in that tree figuring on bd feet calculation. Good Luck Master
Although unrelated to the tree being dropped and my apology for changing the subject, but who or what is mastermind and what would porting do for my saws? Is that like a big bore kit for my Harley?
check out the chainsaw sub-forum mastermind has done many build threads. The guy is a true artist with a die grinder(fleet of them) The ports of the 2-stroke are opened, cylinders "decked" for added compression, mufflers opened etc. Lots of power left on the table from manufacturers to keep saws within EPA regs, along with limitations of the casting process for mass production.
Wow, big tree. Hopefully you can get some nice firewood out of it. Looks like there'll be some gnarly rounds where all those crutches meet though

If it looks to get too ugly, it'll have a 046 or 576 written all over it. That way I can have some noodles for my chickens ( )and some nice square chunks for stove.

I hope it isn't hollow or soft at the base. (so many of the oaks are here) When the power company petitioned the town to remove trees along their poles and wires along the street they had to mark every tree and get a signed request from every homeowner that owns the property, despite the town and power company having certain rights along the right of way, as to remove or leave the wood. I elected to have the two pine trees branches removed but the tree trunks left to the side as they are mine. In the end the Town Council did not allow the power company to completely remove the trees only trim wires along the branches and despite them trying to do a neat arborist job and trimming the trees nicely, it looks stupid in most places.
