Excessive squish velocity from too tight a clearance increases the chance of detonation. Increasing the compression by means of tightening squish into the teens is counterproductive in that you are putting extra heat into the piston and head from the extra compression AND the "insulating" affect that a proper squish provides is gone, compounding the heat transfer.
You're better off increasing compression by other means and keep the squish where it's productive. There are some good squish value calculators available online if anyone is interested in playing with different scenarios.
