Started splitting some maple

i took the day off yesterday and spent a little time splitting. Splitter is coworkers that I put a different engine on. Wood is from factory where I cut skids, they had the tree cut down in the summer and held the wood for me til I went back this fall to start cutting skids again. Nice guys!
I can't post pics, don't want to waste time reposting, so pics to follow.

 

Grabbed a couple loads of maple over the past two days. It's not the greatest btu wood in the world but it's about my favorite to work with. Love some maple. I'll post some pics when the sun comes up.

That is big wood! How are you picking them up?

 

Rolling them onto the beam. Going to need my son to help with the bigger ones.

I like maple. After just a few months, rounds dry out on the ends and split clean with the splitter only a few inches into it. Ash on the other hand is very stringy. Red oak is about ideal for processing, but you have to be patient for the payout whereas maple and ash seem to be burnable much faster...

 

Yes I know Dex I have been having issues with my iPhone and that just compounded the aggravation I was expierencing trying to upload pics. I've calmed down a little since. Must go take a blood pressure pill now.
