Hey all I have owned my St Croix since 05, never used corn. Is it worth looking into. I read that 50/50 mixture is what I can use, and I am concerned about the clunkers.... Input???
A 50/50 mix shouldn't result in any clinkers, or at least not big ones. Is your exhaust corn rated? IMO, I'd get about 50lbs of corn and give it a test run. That amount shouldn't hurt the pipe much, if at all.
Corn is a viable option, What stopped many from burning it was when the price skyrocketed. Burns dirtier than pellets but when it was cheap, It was worth the effort. I heard prices may have fallen and may be worth looking into again. But even the 50/50 mix might clinker in a standard stove. And it still could clog the burnpot and need daily or even multiple times a day pot cleaning(depends on the stove). Trying a lower blend ratio like 75% wood pellet and 25% corn is doable in many stoves without as much hassle. You'd have to weigh the price versus pellets to see if its worth the extra work. You'd also have to check and be sure your venting is corn rated as corn is very corrosive and will eat at the venting inner pipe(liner) very quickly. Where most corn burners save is in buying in bulk. As most bagged corn is right inline with wood pellets.
Which venting do you have? Pellet Vent Pro is corn rated Where PV isn't. Post what ya got or a part number of one of the pieces. We might be able to help??
Corn cherry pits etc... When I was really Green in this game, my dealer sold me on castile for its ability to burn other fuels.. As I lost my green horn I realized the genius didn't sell and install the appropriate insert vent for multi. I'm not sure if he was lazy, ignorant or a case of a case of DGAF. Ray
