Folks let's get back on track here.. Keep it civil please. I don't want to lock this up it has a lot of potential and is an interesting topic.... Keep it friendly folks............
Edit: Pete's right, not worth the argument On that note, I'll be done here. Sorry Dennis for the hijacking. Hope someone local gets a nice haul from this thread
Not worth the argument, but too important to apologize either 'eh The wood is there, someone could grab it easily and end up with afewloads of wood for a couple of dollars.
Wow, catching up on some reading here and didn't realize how crazy this went till now. As I was reading Dennis's post rather fast all that really registered to me was an island with 20 trees and free, couldn't even tell you where the island was at until now. My attempt at a little humor came from the thought of an island anywhere that had only 20 trees down and firewood cutters found out it was free Put that island in NE Ohio and we would probably hear about the ruckus it caused. I apologize if I have stepped on anyones toes and my humor came from a thought not a city. Todd
I grew up in SE Mich. Detroit does have its bad parts. Belle Isle is not one of them. I can't blame the MDNR for trying to get some work done for free. They have a very limited budget. If the branches and saw dust were left behind that is something they would have to clean up with limited man power in the off season. Odds are pretty good the tree huggers would pizz and moan about the mess in the mean time and raise holy hell if a similar situation ever arose in the future. Free-ish maple darn near metro Detroit, hard to beat that if you are local and in a pinch. I did some saw work in the Chicago/Livernois area summer after I graduated high school when contractors were desperate for labor after a severe storm. That was an interesting neighborhood. Bunch a white dudes from the sticks roll up and unass their rigs, the local brothers start congregating. Out come the saws and the brothers scatter. Not sure if it was because there was work to be done or if the thought of tangling with the naughty side of ~30" of full chisel didn't sound like much fun anymore...
