I have been looking for a bigger saw. Lately I have been getting into some really big oaks and a bigger bar would be good. I came across a pretty new MS290 with an 18" bar on craigslist. I looked like it had not been used much from the pictures and the guy said he has only used it 3 times. He was asking $275 which seemed to be a really good deal so I offered $200 cash and I would be there in a few hours right after I got off work. I figured he would turn me down but he said come get it. I could tell it had been hardly run. It looked like a 20" bar in the pictures and it was but he thought it was an 18 so that worked out nicely too. It needs a chain and he gave me a typed up receipt, because I am real careful about not buying anything that could be stolen. I will post some pictures soon it, was late by the time I got home and cleaned it up. I'm going to pickup a new chain after work and get a sharpener for the new size chain. It's a .325" .063" 81 tooth chain. This deal came at a good time for me.

Nice... look around for ideas on a simple muffler mod for that series. They are good firewood saws. Keep that chain sharp and do the usual maintenance. Have fun!

Nothing like a good CL story...you got lucky on the low ball offer too, doesn't hurt to ask, you never know.

Thanks guys. I will probably do the muffler mod in the next couple weeks. I picked up a new Stihl yellow link chain and one of those new 2 in 1 files for it last night. Looking forward to getting some wood bucked up this weekend. I have about 15 cords of 18" + White and Red Oaks to buck up over the next few weeks.

I know it may sound exaggerated but it's true. Right now I am working wood every day after work until dark and full days on Saturday and Sunday. I just hired a guy to help me load and split too. I offer guys wood too just to come and help me. I really need a dang dump truck. The MS290 is going to get a workout for sure. Splitoak bring your saw, I got a guy near Statesville waiting for me to buckup and haul off a dozen red and white oaks. They are already on the ground. I'll have to start taking some more pictures.

I keep forgetting to take the pics. I been getting home kinda late. Living the lavish "Firewood Lifestyle" every evening after work. Going to check out a big oak near my work that needs to be cut up and hauled off then picking up a cord of some nice seasoned oak from a home owner tonite. (He is moving) got a super deal on it couldn't pass it up and I don't have to run the saw til the weekend now :(

Great price on a light used farm boss

They sound bound up and sick in the stock form. Once the muffler is modded I bet it feeds up close to 20% extra power.

I still shake my head when I hear that saw my wood cutting uses (ms290). I hate that I waited the 5 years or so to modd my 390. It makes a huge difference.
