Warning ...... Pic Heavy Thought I'd show you folks a typical day of cutting "out back" for me. Headed out back this morning to work on some more downed tops, going to be a 3 saw day, 024, 026, 036. The ground was still too soft from rains the other day to get at the tops I wanted without leaving ruts in my road, so I decided to take down some dead standing ash instead. I dropped a medium sized one with my 026 and mauled it up into the trailer. The next one I wanted was going to be a little tricky. It had a "Y" trunk about 8' up. Both side trunks each went off in opposite directions. I figured the safest way to deal with it would be to drop the right trunk up at the "Y", then take down the remaining tree with the left trunk. I backed the trailer up close to the tree where I could safely stand on the tail of the bed and made the cut with the 026, notching to the right and plunge cutting into the crotch from the left. As what often happens in deep woods, the tree hung up on an adjacent one and wouldn't fall. Time for the Ford 3400! The Ford easily pushed the trunk off its perch although it still remained hung up high on an adjacent pignut. I'll just chain up to the bottom of it and pull it down next time out. I proceeded to down the remainder of it with my 036, mauled it into the trailer. On my way out, I topped my load off with some smaller white oak rounds that I could get to with the 024. About 3 hours later, I was heading out with a decent load. With the backhoe removed, I'm front heavy on the 3400, and my trailer is a tilt trailer balanced around the middle. I need to haul out a "front heavy trailer load" to keep extra weight on the rear of the tractor for good traction. I have to climb a small hill up into my yard from the woods. The best part of the day was when I got back to the house .......... my "mail lady" had left me two boxes from ebay. A new 20" bar and 20 & 25" RS chains. What a day, time to kick back. I'll be at it again tomorrow!
Outstanding! How you like that Ford 3400 Industrial? Brother bought a 4500,early '70's I think, about 3 years ago.Loves it,moves hay bales to the horses,does snow removal,light dirt work on his 5 acres.
I used to have an old "42" Farmall M, but I sold it 2 years ago and had been hauling wood out with my "Highlander". Heated leather seats are sure nice on a cold butt!!! Had not had a tractor for 2 years until I pickup up the Ford this spring. It had been sitting in a field for 8-10 years dead. I basically got it for "scrap" price, as is, and took my chances with it. It needed a lot of work, but nothing major or really expensive. Did a lot of digging with its 13' hoe over the summer on drainage and bridges and such. Dropped the hoe off (easy 4-point setup) and put a swinging draw bar on it to haul wood. Today was the first time I used the bucket on a tree like that, worked out great!
I really like it Thistle, especially after having taken an old dead machine and bringing it back to useful life. I know YOU know how that feels with all of your old gems. This 1975 3400 has the 3 cylinder gas engine, plus all the regular heavy duty "industrial" parts. That 4500 is a real nice tractor too, would have been nice to have found one of those dead in a field cheap!

Yeah I still have it. Actually cut with it for the first time a few weeks ago (I've run it a couple times but never cut with it). It was still down on that basement table where it was in that photo I posted last winter! Ran/cut very nice, seemed slightly stronger than the 036, although that 036 has seen its share of work. That's what I just got the new 20" bar in the photo above for. Used all my other old 16" and 20" bars to put on those 031AV I sold. I only had that half worn 20" one on the 036 till I bought this second one. I'm probably going to keep that 360 Pro, but if I ever decide to sell, I'll certainly let you know. May pick up an 038 (not sure if its S or Mag) from my sister, in trade for my 024. Her and my BL got divorced this summer, she has the 038 that's too big for her, wants something smaller that she could handle, willing to do an even swap for one of my smaller saws. Not sure I want the 038 though, although it probably would be worth trading for the 024. She also has a log splitter that she will sell me for $500 (divorce paper value). I don't remember exactly what kind it was, 27 ton I think, we'll have to take a close look at that one. Still mauling here ............... a splitter would be a nice addition! I can't believe you bought that Blue Max (great old movie) saw. You're too much! You need to fix that seized 357 ................... what have you been doing with all your time?

A hoard of old ammo got me those saws ...................... and a bunch of others as a bad case of CAD took its toll. I'm doing much better now!
Looks like a great day in the woods , haulin home some BTUs and gettin some goodies too I recently bought my first stihl chain , they say they are pre stretched , well , since I put it on I haven't had to adjust it
