Hello All! I used to visit the old site, although I didn't post as often as I lurked. Congrats on the new place! I checked the local home-improvement centers for pellets and would appreciate some advice. Yes, I'm late to the game this year - kinda nervous about that. Lowe's has Nature's Own and Nation's Choice for $237.50/ton (or, $4.98/individual bag). Home Depot has Stove Chow's and Nation's Choice, but they will go for $249.00/ton. TSC will charge $264.50 for a ton, but the issue there is that I don't have a vehicle to move the pellets with. At the other places, I can use their vehicle. Unfortunately, local shops will be around $300 - $350/ton. From reading on here, it seems like Nature's Own might be the way to go. What do you think?
Nations own or stove chow work well for me. Very similar pellet as both are made by the Premier pellet corp(AKA Energex).
Now you got me confused. Do you mean Nation's Choice or Nature's Own? Many thanks for the quick response!
Nature's Own or Stove Chow. FWIW you can pay for a ton at TSC and get the ton discount as long as you take all your pellets the same day. I have more than once made two 25 bag trips.
Well if you burned as many as I did year one you would not have an issue remembering...... Nations Choice were mostly bad. IIRC I may have had a couple good bags here and there.
I thought that I would give you all an update - with some ugly pictures. I stopped by Lowe's and they didn't have a single bag left. Totally out. I then drove down to Home Depot and they had several tons of Stove Chow. The price was $249/ton. I opened up an HD card and will likely end up with some period of interest free financing. I rented the HD truck. It's limited to 3,000 pounds, so they could only load 1 ton per trip. The two trips ended up taking a little over 1.5 hours. At the house, we just stacked the bags in the garage. A pic is below. Once I returned the truck, we started to carry the pellets down into the basement. We got about 65 bags down there and had to move on to other obligations. A pic is below. Yes, we are not the best pellet stackers. However, I'm quite satisfied that we have 2 tons in the house. Now if I could just seal up the venting to stop the smoke from leaking into the house.
Geez, We need to have Dex teach you how to stack! Just kidding, Stacks look as good as mine. My only neat stack is the empty bag pile! Let us know how you like them Chows?
Dex is DEFINTELY twitching a bit after seeing those pics!!!!! Hitch might get a stranger (Dex) knocking on his door offering to "rearrange" his pellet stacks Congrats on the pellets though!
Uh-Oh! I hope that I don't get reported for pellet abuse. My plan is to move the rest from the garage to the basement this weekend. If my stacks aren't obvious pellet abuse, I'll post another pic. Regarding the smoke leak that I mentioned, there is a fair amount of smoke coming out from where the first piece of vent connects to the stove. I have some high temp caulk, but is it OK to use it there? I see that the original installer used some caulk at the other joints - but not there. Many thanks for any help.
