Great weather this weekend! Dropped a small dead standing red oak, maybe 18" at the base. Cut, hauled, split and stacked yeilded about 3/4 of a cord. Not a ton, but a lot for me. Every bit helps.... Finished filling the top of this stack, maybe shy of 1/4 cord. Second stack from the right is the rest of the haul, maybe 1/2 cord in this stack....
Don't kid yourself-18" at the base is not a small oak. Yeah, I know there's lots of mega oaks out there, but that's still a good sized tree! Is that a northern tool splitter?
Lookin good Fan. Working with that stuff is like chunks of lead isn't it? Unreal how much heavier it is than ash.
It was a decent size tree, hated to see that it succumbed to something... yeilded about 3/4 of a cord, and yes Northern tool splitter. Ground is rolling and uneven, but I do have space to stack and split... Got that right. My youngest daughter asked me if it was going to be oak I was cutting this weekend. I asked her why, and she said she would wait to help me when I was cutting something a bit lighter... Most of the work we did this weekend was getting up leaves... Big job in my world... Daughter #1 helped big time with leaf duty this weekend... Here's a shot of the grounds after leaf collection duty. Should have taken a before shot with 2" of leaves over everything.
Nice stacks You have great helpers if the yard is looking that good ! Looks lie yo still have some leaves yet to fall, the good & bad of owning property with lots of trees . ( The good outweighs the bad )
Thanks everyone... Yes, most of the leaves are still hanging on especially the oaks. Great time of year with these warm sunny peak leaf changing days. Really pretty, but along with all this comes the leaves that need to be dealt with.
Yea! Me too! I use a couple big backpack blowers and blow them into the woods. Best way I found to deal with them. It's really unbelievable the amount of leaves I have and a large area to deal with also. The Stihl blowers work really well in my hilly terrain.

No.... Not at the same time.. . If I did, I think I could hover over the leaves like a helicopter. I enlist help, when you coming ovvahh?
