Late in the season last winter I noticed I was having internal issues with the Sierra. It's my main wood heater and I was burning a lot last winter. My Mother and Wife call me a procrastinator and I would agree. Anyway I took it to work and during a few lunch hours I repaired the melted steel.
It should be good for another 40 years now. Do you have any pics of the outside of it? I had an old Sierra that I bought off my mom. It was a good stove. It was probably 40 years old when I sold it in great condition. I got more out of it than my mom gave for it used 25 years earlier.
Here's a pic of my old Sierra. I've never even seen a pic of another one like it. Someone moved the flue collar from the back to the top before my mom bought it. I noticed 20 years later when moving the stove, I sanded it down for a new coat of paint and could see the grinder marks where I assume the scrap from the hole in the top was welded into the back hole. Someone did a very nice job on the mod.
I wonder it they are basically the same stove, with the door moved to the front? Mine had the same pedestal also.
Very nice. I'll bet that's an early one. All I have seen look similar to mine. My Fatherinlaw has an insert that is set up like yours with two front doors. His doors have windows and the hardware looks like mine.
