    Honey locust have smoother bark, quite similar in appearance to sugar maple. They also have smaller, but more elongated (less round) leaves.

    Is the top of the main trunk broken? Seems to be sending out a lot of little shoots, almost like its trying to recover from some injury.

    no actually 2 different trees, no leaves 20' up a bunch of 30' trees, they look unhealthy.
    look even more dead when I break out the chainsaw massacre!
