I have found a place that sells cubex pellets very close by. $250 a ton. Anyone have any experience burning these? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you get the newest stuff with the green leaf on the bag. Some of last seasons stuff had a higher ash content, But was corrected this season. Otherwise an excellent pellet with low ash and high heat.

Yep, watch out. If they're the new stuff, that's a good price.

Awe crap, Open my big mouth and I should know better! Chattin with a bud this morning about his cubex purchase and he states they seem just as bad as last season. They are the latest with the green leave too! He's savin 2 bags for me so I can see first hand. He got a breckwell and its been very picky, So it could be a false alarm. But I want to be safe JIC!

Careful gas, Might be something you want to try first before buying a full ton. Just passin along an alert.

I've burned them and still have some in my stash, they are an old batch however and they will allow you to use your stove as a welding torch. Very high heat and low ash hardwood pellet. I can't speak to any of the current or even last year's or the year before's batches. Mine are from 2010. Later on I will be debating with myself if I'll burn any this season.

Burned 2 ton of Northern last season. The first ton I bought in December and they were great. Low ash and great heat. The second ton was bought in February. The first 15-20 bags were really ashy and turned the inside of the stove black. The rest burned great. I would buy them again. $250 is a great price. I got mine for $280

Yeah, I'd burn them in something else before passing any judgements

I think I will pick up a few bags tomorrow and see how they burn compared to the others I have burned so far.

When I cleaned the stove today it looked like it may have been a little dirtier from the Currans. (There may have been a few of the others in there when it got started.) Not more Ash, but the glass was dirtier. Like more brownish, filmyish type stuff on the glass. (for lack of a better term I guess) But I will see how it is in another couple of days. I know now that it is nothing but the Curran blends going through it.

How often do you guys clean your exhaust stack?

It can vary a lot. I have 3" venting and am just under the limit to need 4". So my vent can't go as long between cleanings as a 4" vent. It also depends upon the type and amount of ash the pellets are producing.

I try to clean it every ton but the schedule gets modified depending upon the outside temperature. I try to pick a warm decent day. Easier on the old bones.

Oh and if you haven't seen the LBT in operation, that is my preferred method of vent cleaning, use Google and have a laugh.

I'm wondering if the little dirtier burn I am getting out of the Currans is because I have now gone over to the stove being hooked up to the High/Low setting. So the camp is plenty warm with these temperatures and it is staying in low. So less pellets in the pot, less fire, not as hot of a fire. A little dirtier burn. What do you think?

I am going down to the camp and turning the stove right off. I should have done that yesterday. Then turned it back on at night about 7pm. The sun is out today, nice day to work outside.

The toughest thing for most any pellet stove is burning on low heat settings.....it just doesn't get hot enough in the firebox.
