A friend has a fireplace. He thinks he has 8" stove pipe to class A and out the roof. He acquired a yotul castine that he wants to freestand partially in his fireplace. His question is, since the castine is set up for a 6" pipe, is there an adapter he can purchase to go from a 6" to an 8"? Thanks

How tall is the stack? I'm pretty sure there's a 6-8" increaser, but I think the Castine is one of the Jotuls that needs better-than-average draft...

There are increasers and decreasers. Is that an oval collar?
Castine is the 400, right? I've heard the same Woody, but no 1st hand knowledge.

That fireplace flue may not be certified to connect to a wood stove. Very few are. He's better off dropping a 6" liner down.

Would be nice to see what is actually there.
How many fireplaces have Class A run down the chimney? Sounds odd.
    Any pics available Well Seasoned?

I'd also check to see if the F400 will run on an 8" flue. Some manufacturers are strict on flue size for the entire run.

    A few things:
I had an f500. The first year I ran it into an 8" T then up 25' of 8"ss liner. It performed so so.
The second year I dropped a 6" liner down into the 8" then to a 6" T. Noticeably better performance.
I'm not sure about the castine, I've heard it needs a good draft.

Anyway, I have a princess insert now and still have these parts.

    I have a 6" T an 8" T and the 6" to 8" reducer/increser thing.
Let me know what your friend wants. He makes a small donation to the Phil chity avatar fund and its his.
