I recently grabbed a 20 yr old Black Walnut top that was held up off the ground by branches. All the sapwood gone, moss on it but rock-solid. Very rot-resistant stuff.
Got another whole truck load out last night. Only, there was no wood on it - the truck bed was full of stone! My BIL called me up last night. His Farmall Cub had stalled out in the woods, and he couldn't get it started, so he drove his truck out there to try to jump it. Only, he didn't have to do that, because it has a crank start. Half a crank and the tractor fired right up. But he ended up getting the truck stuck on a stump trying to back out! ...And it was hopelessly stuck - almost on 3 wheels. Plus he had a bed full of stone, so that certainly didn't help. Tried using the Farmall for pulling assistance - nope. He had an idea to use his floor jack to get it up on a ramp. Then I told him to grab the jack and his chainsaw instead. So we jacked up his truck to lift it off the stump, then I flushed it to about 2" from the ground with his chainsaw. He's only got an 18" bar, and I could only saw it from one side, so I had to remove a couple chunks of it before I could get the saw all the way through. Very careful saw work, as I only had about 3" of clearance from his back tire! Took us about 2 hours altogether - in the middle of the woods, at night. Drove it right out of there after the stump was gone. He tossed all the chunks of it in the bed of the truck - "saving those?" I said. "No I'm burning these m-f'ers!"
