I'm looking at pulling the trigger on a NC-30 here soon, was reading the latest HD reviews and found a reviewer that has had warping issues with two different NC-30s (sounds like his hearth might not be level). I haven't found any posts here or the other site that mention warping but wanted to ask you NC-30 burners directly. Any warping issues? Here's the review:
Probably an over-fire issue. The 30 has lots of happy users and I don't ever remember hearing of any warping problems.
Yeah, warping sounds like an overfire. Reviews aren't always worth much. JMHO, and review of reviews.
we occasionally replace a woodstove but not too often. usually bearing a big white spot on the top and the sides
Thanks for the feedback Mike (and others). I was born and raised in Roanoke and look forward to supporting y'all.
I just went out and pulled the top Class A and cap to take a look, and found virtually nothing (there was a very, very small amount of brown fluff), so I'll wait to run the brush down. This stove burns clean even in these warmer temps, where the old stove would have left a bunch of black crinkly crap in the cap in these temps. Happy burner here with the new-ish 30. My old Ashley had been overfired and warped the holy livin' crap out of the back panel.
Been a couple times that mine was in 750 range according to mag temp gauge and the infrared gun with the fan blowing at max- no issues ( so ya know that temp was a good bit higher than those readings) NO white spots but it did smell HOT , but I do get a might perplexed when it gets to the 700 range ( try not let things get quite that far) - because of a run away problem on a previous non-Englander unit( scared the livin xyz out of me - in a mobile home no less). My introduction to the "Sealed fire box/ Epa style/ intakes everywhere units at the time. Tough getting edgumacated that way.
from his review- wouldn't matter what stove make- he is plain over firing- A stove shop/mfg nightmare customer. Likely of the cut the pine tree down in morning and burn in evening ilk as well.
My opinion... When reading reviews I usually dont read into just one too much. Look over the whole set of reviews and see common points good or bad. Reading review take away 50%, believe 10%, then use common sense... But on Englander... This is my third unit (2 - NC13 and my current NC30)...I did have a issue with my top lip where the door gasket touches off on the stove on my first NC13. It was tweaked/warped, verified by a straight edged. And pics to Mike. Mike took care of it and got me a replacement. ... Great customer service Englander offers. I know of one other unit that had that issue, that was on the other website. Thats where mine was documented at too. Great units, I wouldn't hesistate to buy another.
I could only imagine the abuse those stoves took in order to sustain that damage. Both stoves from the reviewer have probably never seen a stove thermometer in their life.
If you find a minute could you give me quick cheat sheet to edgumacate me on "Sealed fire box/ Epa style/ intakes everywhere units at the time"? Somehow we got by a record cold winter last year, but I want to treat the new stove better. I am old school, vent caps, no seals, etc. Condisdering an Englander insert.
Mike is the main man @ Englander. I will say that their customer service is awesome. Have always answered my questions and also took care of a couple of small warranty items I had quickly, efficiently and were a pleasure to deal with. They are not the most expensive, fancy stoves, but are lots of bang for the buck and a pleasure to deal with.
Try mike holton with the @ sign in front of his name. He'll get back to ya' at some point. Great guy.
