My bar on my 011 was binding in the cut. I figured it was just the old bar was warped or had sloppy rails or something. I bought a really cheap bar with a bunch of other stuff I ordered a while back(silver something...streak maybe?) . So I figured I would throw it on the saw since I figured that was the issue. Well bar is on the saw and it still does it. Gets the bar buried and it pinches or something and does not go any further and starts smoking the chain its getting so much friction and burning the oil.

Yes the bar is oiling. Could it just be a cheap bar...but the old stihl bar does exactly the same. This is with tue same chain that has not been sharpened yet and was new out of a box...not yet dull yet so I havent even sharpened it. Chain and bar are both .050 ( I will double check). And this was while cutting say 6-8" stuff. I cut a larger round closer to the bar length and dont remember it doimg it in the cut and I was about half way through the log when I got tired of the small saw and pulled out a bigger one :):saw: The bar is a 14"

Any thoughts? Usually its a bar or chain issue...but it follows the bars and the chain is basically new? Bad chain..I think it was forester or oregon?

The bar nose is not receiving enough oil. Either crap in the bar groove or low-output from the saw. Check to make sure the oil hole in the bar aligns well with the saw. Is it a grease-able nose sprocket?

How about the chain then? Cutter's equal length on either side? Rakers at uniform height?

Also this is one of those old saws ...you can see the oil slinging off the bar after it idles for a bit. No concrete needed to see if oil is slinging off.

I hope they are. This chain is right out of the package. It was new when I mounted it. Probably do sent have 4 tanks on the chain if that. I mostly used this saw to cut trees off a road ...small ones less than 5"s and cut branches off the edge of a field. Chain is a semichisel and still seems fine so i have not sharpened it yet.

Nope. I mostly cut branches off of trees. And cut a few dozen 4" stump diameter trees when clearing an edge of my field and road.

I'm not saying its factory sharp its just not dull.

It will fly through half of an 8" log then just all of a sudden stop in the cut. Its really strange to me?

Drive sprocket wear , clutch bearing? I would touch up the cutters and double check depth gauges. Lot of dirt in them road edge trees, can take the bite out of chain real quick

    This is a woods road.

I am not saying g the chain can't benefit from sharpening but that I dont think thats the issue.Unless these small saws act ttotally different from larger saws??

When my other saws are dull they dont want to cut into the log at all and you have to really lean on them to get any amount cut...this cuts fine then stops just as if the bar had a rolled over edge on the rail or if it was bent?

The bearing or sprocket is worth a look..theres another option.

If you pull it out of a cut when it has stalled and shut off the engine, can you easily move the chain along the bar with your fingers? Is the chain loose on the bar, allowing chips to clog the rails?

When there is damage to the cutters on one side of the chain, the saw cuts so crooked that it will bind the bar/chain up within the first few inches of a cut. Burnt wood, hot bar, etc.
This may not be whats going on but I've seen it happen. Do you have another chain to throw on it?

Chain doesnt stop in the cut the whole saw does...chain still spinning and getting hot on the wood.

I know the whole one side sharper than other deal and it cutting circles.

I need to get another chain...think I may have one...nope different DL count even though bar is same length. I will verify and buy another chain at some point. I usually just cut 3" stuff or so with the saw so its not a big deal and probably why I rarely notice it.

Sounds to me like the rails on your bar need dressed. After a while (especially in low oil or dirty conditions) the bar rails will "mushroom", and they need filed from time to time. When the rails get mushroomed out, the bar is essentially wider than the kerf and it will hang up in the cut. Pinch the bar in your fingers and pull down across the rail......if your fingers snag when doing this, therein lies part of the problem.

I thought that was the problem with the old bar even though I dressed it.

Thats why I threw this brand new bar on. So the bar doesnt have 15 mins cut time on it. Its a cheap bar so maybe thats the problem...but seems really strange that the old bar and new bar would be doing the same thing. This is why I have not totally ruled out chain...but I also am saying g that this chain is not rocked out, not burning g through cutters it chews its way through and throes good chips for a semi chisel 40cc saw.

This one has me scratch in my head. Thats why I was seeing if anything else can cause this?

Thought that maybe cause the clutch cover has one bar nut maybe its a weak point??? I dunno

Is the chain the same Guage as the bar? Sounds like it's a narrower Guage than the bar......

Pretty sure its the same. Will have to get a caliper out. It was labeled right in package...anything is possible.

Once I get home I'll throw a gauge on raker...but it wouldnt make sense that it would cut fine halfway through then stop if it were rakers. Now if one side was too long that could cause a crooked cut causing this.

One bar nut would not cause problem- plenty times rattled one off, didn't know it. finished with out adversity. Sides some of the new small units only have one to start with.
