These guys were in the garden around the well, the look suspicious to me! Talk about do it yourself. What a dam mess. I still am not sure what was leaking. But have managed to pull the water line off of the well casing. Now I have to get down in the ditch and dig by hand. Hopefully I did not hurt the power line. I see it. I will replace intire water line to house. Going to be a long day.
Good luck. Turned off power right? Don't need you standing in a pool of water digging next to a power line.
Good point. I'd assume that if power was on, it would be shooting water into the ditch from the pitless adapter. Still... good thing to double check.
Ya, power off. I've been hit with 115 enough times to know I don't want to get hit with 230. What a d_ _ mess! I got most of the pipe exposed from well to house. Once I was down 3'-6" I had to dig by hand so I didn't ruin the power wire. The whole time fighting water in the ditch. Man, I'm not as young as ...... Anywho, I dug a hole deeper so the water would go down there. That worked well and I was able to get the pipe exposed from well to about 3/4 of the way to house. I found the section I had replaced before, looked like it was still holding tight. I'm not 100% positive but it looked like the pipe had broke right where it connected to adapter at well. I still had about 6-10" of digging the rest of the way toward the house and it started to rain. Weathermen don't know Jack! Suppose to be sun and nice. Turns out clouds and crappy, cold rain! So by 12:30 I'm exhausted and getting drenched with rain in ditch. I replaced the pipe from the well to as far over as I could with new pipe, buried the first foot by hand, then covered that with some wide scrap OSB I had. I know, right? I didn't have any good insulation board and didn't want to go to the store while ditch is filling with rain. So I figured it would protect it some from frost and from me back filling. I had turned the power on and checked and there appeared to be no leaks. What a crappy job. The yard is a mess. And I got my tractor all dirty.
Why is it that when I see something coming up out of the ground it is never a bubblin crude? Do I need to switch trucks? Again?
Unbelievable. The water worked great all week. I left Friday night to go up to a friends camp and spend Friday and Saturday night and come home Sunday morning to do some work around the house. Cut grass, move some wood, etc. Well Friday night we started having a few beers and watching the baseball game and my wife calls and there is no water at the house. To make a long story short, my brother and I installed a new pump in the well today and ran a new electrical line from the well to the house. So I was able to have a good time for one night with some friends I haven't seen in a while. A few cold beers, good food, and a lot of laughs. So that pump lasted about 12 years. First it was a leak in the pipe that broke last Sunday, and then after I fixed Monday that it worked great for 5 days, then the pump went bad.
I think you mean 120v and 240v! The water line is only ~4ft down? And it doesn't freeze? We have to go 10-12ft here.
My line is about three feet down, that is all they could do here. Most all of that is fill. We have ledge everywhere. House in only in the ground three feet on three sides and above ground on one end. I can see the footing. Never moves. So much ledge. My pump was put in April 1975 and never has been touched. I have changed the pressurized holding tank and switch three times.
Yup. 4 feet gets us down below frost here. The submersible in well pumps seem to be lasting an average of about 12 years. The original went in at 1978. My father replaced it once. And I have now replaced it twice. It was an apartment house for 28 years or so. So it got a lot of running time then! Five units most of that time, three towards the end. And reduced to our 1 house for the last 11 years. No more tenants then.
