Here is most of the install pictures of my Wood Gun E100 wood gasification heating system. October, 2011. I'm not very good with putting the text in with the pictures but you will get the idea.
The boiler just fit through the window on it's side and was slid down a heavy built wooden ramp I made and then stood up. The tank was even harder. I could not slide it down the ramp because of it's length and it would not fit in the window if I angled it down too much. So the cribbing for the tank. That was interesting.
Rolled the boiler back into place on 4 - 3/4" pipes. Egyptians? Phhhh. Who were they again? This room use to be a kitchen in the basement apartment many moons ago. Great place to have a sink!
There have been some modifications/improvements over the first three seasons. Smoke hood attached/installed and piped outside. Very nice.
An improved insulated pipe from the cyclone has been installed. Now, if I can just find the pictures I will post them.
The boiler is a stainless steel hull and I decided to go with the 400 gallon buffer tank to assist the boiler in heating such a large house. It is basically a very large heat battery! I paid two local HVAC guys to do all the plumbing and wiring after I got everything into place. When they were done, and I ran it for a while, I found out what kind of heat that big tank gave off. Beautiful! A huge radiator in the basement. Great when it is really cold out, not so when it isn't. So I bought a closed cell foam insulation kit and insulated the tank. What a difference that made. I then insulated the 1-1/2" copper pipes around boiler/tank and over to the other boiler room where it joins up with the main "manifold" for all the secondary loops to the house and indirect hot water heater. So the Gasification boiler heats all our domestic hot water (DHW) for our showers, dishes, etc. With a wife and three kids, THAT is priceless!
Great install !Do you think you will add more storage ? Is there enough time between firing to do a little baking?
There is plenty of time between firings this time of the year campinspecter ! I am only firing in the morning for an hour to an hour and a half. Then another in the evening for an hour. I have never tried baking in my boiler yet. ?
Here is that improved insulated pipe I installed during or after the first season. C.R.S. @campinspector I don't think I will add more storage. I have considered that, several times LOL, and almost bought another tank once. But the system works great the way it is. And last winter was a real good test for it and it did great! Even on the coldest days and nights I was able to still get a seven to eight hour burn time. Perfect for sleeping right through the night.
Thanks piney! I wish I had taken more pictures through the process. But my plumbing guys did a great job and I was sooooo glad to pay them to do all the plumbing and electrical. I'm not a plumbing or electrical guy. I am saving between $3000-$3500 a year in oil cost, at least, and have been through 3 heating seasons with it so far. This is the 4th one getting started now. By the end of this season it will have paid for itself. Then it will be all savings and I can use that money for something else the family needs instead of giving it to the oil man. With all our fire wood coming off the land it is real nice.
Storage is 400 gallons. This boiler holds 60 gallons. It is good to have a lot of hot water stored to heat this much living space. House is 4000+ sq.ft. , attached garage is 900 sq.ft. kept about 45 deg., plus heating Domestic Hot Water (DHW).
