I saw one today a Lowes, "dirty hands"
Looked OK, 27 ton would split almost anything .
Look similar to the MTD / Troybilt splitter.

Out of the splitters I have seen in the box stores I like the Ariens the best. I like how everything is placed on it. When you look at a splitter look at how everything is arranged on it. Can it be operated from both sides? Will the hoses catch on anything when you raise it veritcally? Look at where the exhaust is on the engine. Will it blow on you? Will it blow on the hydraulic tank and make the oil get hot? What if a split falls off the splitter? Will it damage anything like a filter or the engine? What is the lowest point on the splitter and will it get hung up if you go in the woods? Is the axle in the way of where you need to stand to work the splitter? A deal breaker of me would be if it has a Briggs engine.

My old splitter was 8 or 10 tons and that split everything I stuck on it. It was slow though, had I think a 5gpm pump with 6.5hp China made Honda clone motor. Motor was awesome on fuel and very quiet, I could split 10 cords on maybe 2 gallons of gas.

I ran a 27ton Troy Built last year and holy cow it was SLOW. Didn't take much to go in the slow stage. Super rough on fuel and the fenders didn't like my shins. If it was my splitter I would have cut them off before lunch!

No idea if it was just THAT unit or what. I was better than hand splitting, but for the $1800 it cost I wasn't impressed at all.

My Swisher does good, though it's slow too. Has only a 16gpm pump, maybe 20. Around 12 second cycle time.
My processor is about 6 seconds to compare.

I have the 27t Ariens for over two years. Excellent! The layout is perfect - everything is out of the way and, yes... you can work from either side. Made in USA.

Yep... speed is perfect for my set-up. It's always back up ready to go by the time I get the next round on the deck.

Took me an hour to put her together.out of hydraulic oil so hopefully the wife remembers to pick some up on her way home this evening. Then I can fire her up and try it out.
