I wasn't planning on using antifreeze. Seems that water would work just fine? The shop is heated. Would get checked on almost everyday, shop is open M-F and I'm around pretty much 7 days a week.

I built one tonight after work. Took me maybe 10 mins. Old AW32 hydro oil pail, aluminum brazing rod to put the can on and two Campbell's soup can. I just cut the 2 cans in half and tack welded them together so I had a solid end on both ends.

I just need to go buy some peanut butter.

Dunno if a few antifreeze mice would harm a my dog... I swear he can eat anything. Left him in the truck for a bit the other day and he ate my sandwich, a whole box of donettos and a BIG ziplock bag of black licorice. Chewed through the paper bag it all was in and they chewed through the ziplocks/boxes.

Oh, and chewed though a gallon sized tupperware type bowl with dog food and ate all that too.

72 pack of the old school Victor spring traps. Especially at this price:

I'm sure the dogs would just "love" that haha.

The bucket trap cost me nothing aside from some peanut butter ($6 for a jar... ouch that stuff is spendy!) I'll see how it works out.

Those bucket traps actually look pretty cool, never seen that before but I've never dealt with mice until we purchased this house back in March. We have mice in our lower kitchen cabinets and I have to use a smaller trap which I've tried quite a few different ones but the original spring type have been the most effective.

I might try scaling down the 5 gallon bucket to a smaller size and giving that a shot.

I regret I did not watch the video to the very end. He suggests nontoxic RV antifreeze. Now we might have to try this.

Similar to pool winterizer - it's just propylene glycol(less the corrosion inhibitors of automotive antifreeze). You'd be amazed at the number of consumer products that have it as an ingredient.

Depending on how cold it actually gets in the space these are placed in calcium chloride - ice melter would do the same. Rock salt could get down to 2F in a 20% solution

Put the trap out at night in the middle of the kitchen floor - you'll catch them

Has been out about 24hrs or so and have caught 8 mice so far.

I found a nest while cleaning the bathroom/breakroom. Under a pile of rags behind some junk. They had drill press shavings/steel wood and pieces of bark all in there.

What size coffee tin is that? It has to be wide enough so they can't hang on with their rear feet on the edge and stretch out far enough to reach the peanut butter.

I have used the bucket mouse trap before. I let them live and then use them for yote bait.
