A buddy of mine has a fairly new MS251C that isn't getting enough oil to the bar. He says at full throttle, with a sharp chain the bar will slowly stop being lubed and the chain will bind up. It is in the shop and they can't seem to find the problem. He has also contacted Stihl with no help. Has anyone else heard of this problem? He thinks the oil flow is low from the factory for environmental reasons. Thank You.
"He thinks the oil flow is low from the factory for environmental reasons." ... welp, no bout a doubt it... that'll save the trees...
Pull the bar and chain and run the saw. If there is no oil coming from the saw the saw has a problem. If the saw pumps oil look at the bar groves and oil hole. You can try and flush the oil tank with some diesel and see if it helps.
My first suspect would be the bar oil hole is getting plugged. How much oil is left in the tank when he runs out of fuel? The other would be a tank venting issue which is pretty easy to determine with a pressure test.
