I would usually use a little more oil. But now oil costs much more than last year. So I'll burn a little more; I'm on the 3-year plan, so I can deal with it. But hopefully I won't have to go 24/7 for a while. 32'F today/tonight; tomorrow it's 40s by noon, so maybe morning fire, and let it die. PITA

But here in New England, it's 5 months of cold. Hopefully I'll get some skiing in a few days a week.

Pretty though, with the Fireview with Ghost Flames,

Good to see ya post’n Steve. Miss your contributions to the what are you listening to thread.
I’ve only had 3 fires so far and none were reloaded. Same predicament here too. Oil is too high to use so trying our best to avoid using any.

I’d burn all the wood I could before turning the oil on!

I'll get back to that. I've been pulling out some older albums recently. I've also been adding some 60s~70s albums that I just couldn't buy then, I just couldn't buy them all.

I should have more wood, and I could for free with the acres I have. I recently took down several big dead ash trees and a couple of 90-foot pines before they took my roof off. But I have other work and fun I like to have and the oil wasn't that bad in years past, not like it is now.

My wife runs the washer and dryer almost every day, and that uses oil, along with the dishwasher.

I’ve gone through about 1/4 cord so far with just evening fires in my Fireview. Usually this time of year I’m going 24/7 but it’s been mild. 60 and rain today, supposed to cool off tomorrow then highs in the 40’s so I may start burning 24/7.

I start fires each morning during shoulder season. It's a matter of old newspaper, bark that fell off the hoard, and 10 minutes. It seems like a PITA the first few days but once I'm in the habit, it's a non issue. I do it both fall and spring. LPG is (a lot) cheaper than oil but I still want to use as little as possible...

X2. My furnace would only go on to heat water during the cold weather. Id rarely turn on for heat in the cold. Id laugh at my neighbors when I saw the truck deliver HHO. I recall one neighbor complaining about filling his TWO oil tanks. IIRC oil was below $2 gallon at the time. This was 20-25 years ago. Cant imagine what he pays today!

My family had a brick apartment building years ago that had an ancient coal fired boiler for heat with tankless water heater attached that had been converted to oil in the 40s. I remember when I was a kid, dad would buy his year's supply of oil late summer at the contract price. It was usually around a buck a gallon or so back then BUT, that monster sucked through an average of 6000 gallons a year. Imagine that bill today...

The landlord here has said I could put a stove in the lower level (its a raised ranch), but when I asked how much the rent would go down he was speechless, of course. It would be easy too as the lower level has a tile floor. Set the unit, run the pipe and done.

Love the look of your stove, Oldhippie I also have oil heat as back up also provide hot water. Got about 300 gallons for $900 ish.. being very frugal it’s 150 gallons for heat and hot water 6 months of winter and 100 gallon oil for hot water from April 15 - Oct 15
I am seeing hybrid electric hot water heater in the spring if prices stay this high.
