I'm not sure what it is but I'm not seeing TOH at all. From my experience, not all end wood is the same color. I'm also not seeing mulberry either and it looks too dark for hickory in my opinion. Would love to hear what the one guy thinks it is.

Yes, no smell o vision on the Internet. That would help. I see the young shag resemblance, but this round is too big for that and would be a shagging by then.

How long has it been cut?
Mulberry would be getting darker after a few days

I am sure it’s not a maple, Birch or Tulip poplar as those are all I have been seeing lately…

If it was yellowish, then turned that color, with those wide growth rings, I'm gonna guess catalpa. Bark on it and mulberry look similar

Yeah, that's what I've seen too. I don't get much mulberry here, but I have and it didn't act like this.

Could be. The guy ghosted, so all he has is firewood now, that he's sure is mulberry, and nobody else either here or on that other site is agreeing with him.

It's fun to try to identify without having it in front of your face though.

I'm not 100% on what it actually IS, but I'm positive it's not mulberry. Of the things that it could be, none of them are great firewood. I say let the guy believe it's mulberry if he's so sure of it. The only downside of that will be years down the road he might post online about how he burned "mulberry" before and found it to be bad firewood. That'll leave more mulberry for the rest of us though.

Even if its just saplings!

Job I did last month had a long down mulberry hung up behind his garage. I asked if I could have it and they agreed. 8" stump with long weathered off bark and sapwood which I took last week. Almost looked like a BL log. Not much but RTB and went in my MB stack. Further investigating and I found another. No time to get it, but I'll be back for it soon the crazy hoarder that I am. Like you Eric I love MB even if just a twig.
Same location as this score from 2020.
One of my favorite pics of mine that shows the difference in color. Fresh cut with some 5-6 month old splits. Hey Horkn can you show this to the guy?
