My 70 yr old Mom still helping me cut her own wood. She outworks most men I know. Found this blowed over Elm behind her house Saturday, so loaded up the saw and said lets go get a load. She was all for it and we had it cut and loaded in less than an hour in an off and on sprinkle of rain. She loaded all but the big heavy ones while I cut. She would kill me if she knew I posted this pic on line.
Good for her and good that you are helping her. My wife had to stop with the big help when she hit her 80's. Until then she was a darned good help to me no matter what I was doing. I don't understand why more females don't help more, but then, I don't know why men don't help their woman more.
God bless your mom for many more years to come. Cherish her, I lost mine in ‘03. That generation raised by the depression era, are something special.
I would like to also give props to my wife. Very good woman, hard worker. She homeschools our 4 kids, works as many hours each day as is needed helping with the firewood business. Taking care of the family, the house and putting great food on the table. And best of all not a complainer. My oldest turned 18 as a freshman this semester at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, he was the valedictorian of the school district (5 schools). Can’t give enough props to the great ladies in our lives. A spouse will be one of two things, 1. A launch pad 2. A lid. All we can do is choose wisely.
I can’t help but think of my deceased father, chainsawed till 80, and split ( while mom stacked) till 88. Shoulder/ rotator cuff limited maul swings, so he laid a round on its side against the woodpile and did a “golf swing” until the maul drove the wedge in. Doing 5 rounds a day added up! Thanks for posting this inspiring picture. “The family that splits together sticks together” enjoyed this post
Awesome to hear mom’s still helping! My dad is still burning and will be 82 next month. I try to keep the saw out of his hands but he still does everything else.
That is great he does some work. One thing that bothers me is that there are some folks who think I should not run a saw or log splitter. For crying out loud, let me do what I can still do! I am well aware that I can't do much so do not need reminding. And worse are those who think I should stop; There is work that needs done and if you think I shouldn't do it... where are you when I do need help?! So I plug along even on those days when after 15 minutes of work I have to stop. Sorry. Rant over. And Jason, you can be proud of your father. I'd bet if he and I ever met, I'd have a new friend.
I mentioned from time to time that someday, you just may find me on the ground near some incomplete work of CSS!
No need for apology here. I’d be concerned if he didn’t want to do those things anymore. I’m not sure he could get the saw fired up but I wouldn’t stop him from using it for sure. When I ask him, he’s fine letting me do it. I think he knows how much I enjoy running them.
