Nashville hot or not so much?

Same here. Last filled June 2020.

 

We had to get a couple orders delivered this morning.
1st load was for a casual burner, firepit. It's been since '21 that they got wood from us.
Got out some smaller hickory limbs and red oak. The Echo XS2511T and XS4910 got to play today
That made about 3/4 tote. Some of the oak was punky, it got tossed in the junk bin. We topped it off with some 2+ yr old cherry... They said stack it on the ground...
Should have brought some plastic pallets...
2nd load went to a church member that helps heat her house with her fireplace. A tote of premium white oak......didn't have to do any one- handed push or pull ups either

 

Alaska advantage we can count on cold. Even so a fair amount of people use the cheaper of the two between heating oil and firewood or a combination of both. We are $6.75 for HHO and we are selling for $450 a cord. And we are busy and 2 weeks creeping towards 3 weeks out for delivery. And honestly the panic will set in soon for firewood. We are starting to hear it on the phone. With current fuel prices we have increased from $400.

 

Same here for smoker bundles. Bad year compared to last. Barely a tire kicker too.

 

No so probably didn't happen......but we delivered 3 totes this weekend...1 Friday afternoon and 2 Saturday morning...

Economy must be hurting folks in these parts. We started good but have slowed down to a 3 day out wait list. We had a late summer wildland fire that burned through town that burned 108 structures and 50 houses. I’m sure some folks went and got that easily gained green/burnt wood. Here’s to work picking up some and a better economy, in spite of the election.

It was back in August, the fire’s edge closest to us was 2-3 minutes’ drive from the house. So a huge concern and anxiety with that. Alaska Fire Service (wildland fire service for the state) estimated it came through town around 70 miles an hour. We are fortunate that there are three AFS locations in the state and one in in my town. However Alaska didn’t have but 20 wildland firefighters in the state, all others were all deployed between Montana, Washington and Oregon. We had had 20-30 mile an hour winds that knocked a tree on the power lines. The first day two of my boys and I helped our preacher and we kept the fire at his property line. Then my son I’m in the firewood business with, he and I stayed with our preacher for about a week keeping the fire at bay. It took a few days to get a wave of firefighters back, plus aircraft. We had 350 or so firefighters and 5 aircraft. It was devastating to all that lost something. I got to see the character, especially my 15 year old son (7 days) and 17 year old son (1day) on the fire. And how they stayed in harm’s way to battle the fire. A one point I was cutting a fire line, 15 year old spotting for me and 17 year old with a water hose keeping up safe. The wall of fire rolling up on us must have been taller than 150 feet, it was double taller than the trees. When that wave flashed past us and that threat was passed. I was horrified to see that every single man that was there at the start of the line had abandoned us, not one person told the 3 of us they were leaving, apparently they just ran. This started around 9pm and by 3am it was just the preacher, my boys and I.

 

I’m sure sales will pick up as it will only get colder. Tuff economy out there.

Thank you, very proud of those young men. I really don’t have the vocabulary and writing ability to express what that night was like. In addition to seeing that wall coming for us, the small fires everywhere from the embers and spruce needles being distributed by wind and currents that the fire made was terrifying. There was nowhere in the 360 degrees around us that there was no spot fires burning.

 

Heroes come in all shapes, sizes and ages my friend! My to all of you!

 

True. I’m 6’3” my 17 year old is 6’5” and my 15 year old is so close to 6’2”. They are working on being men of substance. Mom and I are proud of them.

To expand I am glad you and yours are ok. I lost a friend in Australia fighting a wild fire late 90s; He was a rookie in back out of real danger zone; nonetheless a tree fell on him. RIP R. Blake Stanford ..
