They can only abuse you as long as you let em. Then they'll find someone else to abuse and take advantage of. It's just their style and it seems there's more and more of them all the time.
I've been there. Just cause they ask, doesn't mean you have to say yes. Heck I got a feeling some people think they'll never hear the word no. They get what they ask for like magic.
I have 2 customers that have ordered their 2nd cord and it’s not cold yet. I would be comfortable having these 2 and 1 other as my only customers. All 3 will buy 3-4 cords from me before Feb. I might keep the only fans customer on my vip list too. They are less than .25 mile from me
Got my first order for green wood. He said I want fresh split to go with my dry wood. You know to get some longer burns I told him I have wood that I split this weekend. Sycamore and Wo will be on the menu. The sizzler combo.
"Sizzler Firewood" should be the name of most wood sellers out there! Hopefully you haven't stacked it yet. One reason I like selling green.
I listed a cord for $240, plus $2 a mile loaded for delivery and no bites yet. Wood is all cut 12-14”. I figured tossed into my 180cuft dump trailer level with the top of the sides is a cord or more so that’s what I was going to haul. Surprised no buyers, maybe too expensive.
Around here it seems that people who burn wood are some of the tightest cheapskates there are. A couple years ago I had a guy ask about price and told him “$80 for a tote which is 1/3 of a cord”. I could see him doing the math in his head for a second and then he exclaimed “$240 FOR A CORD OF WOOD!?!?!” I really thought he was going to crap out a green squealing worm right there on the sidewalk. My base price is $350 a measured cord, for general cordage. And adjusted from there for quality (chunks and uglies, pine, locust etc). And thats picked up at my place. Freight is extra and varies with the order/job. I don’t sell a lot and that’s ok. I’m not gonna work hard for nothing. That’s my price take it or leave it.
I often wonder if its a true cord. Most average buyers are clueless. Good on you for sticking to your price. We sure do work hard for it!
Wow, $240 is way too cheap and 180 cubic feet is right on the money for loose wood tossed into a truck or trailer.
I’d much prefer to be at $350 but the market here is $200-$300 depending on what grade of junk you want. If I can sell a few cords to pay for gas and oil that’s fine. If I wasn’t splitting wood I’d be watching tv…
I once found that to be true until I became the highest priced seller in my area. If you sell high quality wood that is ready to burn, you will find people who are willing to spend it because they are tired of paying less for junk. If you aren't looking to sell much, just sit on it and it will eventually sell.
