As has been mentioned, it's Honey Locust. The oaks will have distinctive rays from the center of the log to the outside, and I didn't see this in these pics. The bark said HL all day though.
It's Honey Locust. It smells nice when burning but you will have to split it small since it's slower to dry out than oak. I had some c+s+s in 2019. I just burned some last night and it was still the same weight as it was 6 years ago. I mix it with other hardwoods and it still doesn't burn hot. There is a lot of smoking and sizzling.
Some people have Euro mounts of deer they harvested hanging in their man caves; I have a thorny honey locust branch hanging from the ceiling in my saw workshop
Thanks everyone! I'm going with honey locust. This is the first time I've really had any that I know of. This one didn't have any thorns so I'm guessing it was the ornamental variety like Buzzsaw mentioned. We do get the thorny natural variety around here some but they're not super common and they usually don't get very big. My first thought was maybe it was some kind of locust based on the bark but I wasn't sure.
That’s a beaut. Bigger horns than some of the real Euro mounts I have LOL They have some tiny deer in Europe.
