Split the last of the rounds at the yard cut today. Around a face cord. Left the splits there until I meet up with him and figure out what they want. Ill grab the Walnut log in the morning as its headed to the miller. Hydro brought back to the woodyard. Ill meet with them this weekend to finalize the details. Score yielded over two cords so far...TOH, dead sugar maple, red maple, black walnut and oak.
Hit the woodyard for a bit yesterday. Bucked and split the slab wood from Thursdays milling at buzz'saw's. BW went for bundle inventory. HL will get mixed with oak. Moved the BW and some cottonwood next door and stacked. Did a bundle delivery after.
Job yesterday took me near the cottonwood cut. Finished one big CW log then started on the NM log. Bucked a few rounds then nicked a rock. Switched to the 25" bar and cut a bit more. What's left not worth the effort. One smaller NM log I fished out after. Another big CW looks possible. The rest too difficult and dirty plus sitting for too long to be worth it. Half a load I'll split today.
Finally finished up replacing what I burned last season and got that section of the stacks re-covered and ready for winter. Officially sitting back at around 36-37 cord. This year's replacement fodder consists mostly of red and white oak, hard maple, lots of black locust and a little ash and apple. Final filling of the section I burned last season..... Standing on top of the stacks for a quick pic of the whole cache.....around 70' long, over 12' wide and 5.5' high.
Do you shutdown and swap as soon as you hit the rock? I find that I will usually continue cutting and evaluate whether the chain can continue or not. Rocks aren't bad here but I get my tip in dirt and schmudge pretty regular. I usually will continue unless the chain fails to feed itself or starts making dust.
