Was doing the church trunk or treat and had four different people ask me if I sold wood. Two of the folks knew about moisture and seasoned wood.
I will sell a truckload or two if I have a surplus, but only to local folks that I'm acquainted with and really have a need for firewood mid-winter. Only once did I put up an ad for firewood, and I'll probably give that miss going forward. My usual annual routine is to keep around a 1/2 cord of shorts, uglies, chunks, and generally unsplitable wood to give away for free. I always have friends that are looking for good wood for their backyard or cabins and I don't mind passing it on.
I hear you. I've sold some in the past and often just help some needy families but at my age, I think that sort of thing is over. I can't even seem to keep up with my own needs. Never thought I'd be in this condition.
The REAL question is were any of the kids smart enough to ask for a piece of firewood, and not candy? Perhaps some young FHCers?
At our Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, we had over a dozen pumpkins to give away and I believe most of them were taken. WoodPirate , did you give those pumpkins away?
I put a notice up for "firewood-$85 face cord" a couple weeks ago......not one call or message. sigh......
Once the weather people begin grumbling the words "polar vortex" people usually start getting motivated.
I had a lot of fun selling wood the first couple years, especially since I was already sitting on a lot of extra inventory. Then by year 3 when I was struggling to maintain, and repeat customers expected me to always have it, the novelty was gone. I'm happy to be hoarding just for myself again. Processing 3-4 cords/year is very doable for me, without consuming my entire life. I'm back in the fun zone with the entire process.
I delivered wood to a regular customer on Saturday. It was a pretty unremarkable visit until his wife came out. I’ve met them both before. I’d say the guy is around 6’7” and his wife is around a 5’4” Asian. He’s not much of a talker and his wife is real friendly. He works from home, but I’ve never asked him what his job is. On Saturday after he and I finished unloading the wife came out to check out the wood and say hi. Hopefully it didn’t look like my jaw dropped, but I left there wondering if the at home job is an only fans channel.
I hear really good things about them. As well as the occasional horror stories. ...Actually, that sounds like all marriages in general!
Probably cuz you didn't post pics!!! Try that come February and up the price and I'll bet you'll have takers.
Nice to put a face to the name WoodPirate A frequent sight in these parts is my PU with wood in it. Surprised I haven't been asked...yet.
