Made a few bags to put in the shed. Retarped a couple of stacks. Had to work on two trails yesterday that the 3" of rain last week rutted up. Very nice working weather.
So I think I finally talked myself into selling one of my saws. Wanted to check it out to make sure I'm not selling someone my problems and found that the sight window on the tank is leaking. Looked into it, various methods to 'repair' all involving super glue and or jb weld/expoxy. I think I am going to pass since the repair methods I found were not considered permanent fixes (other than the one guy who just expoxied the entire window over lol). So now, to sell the saw as a working unit I gotta buy a new tank fer it.
You could look into Avery labels which are stick on. They usually come with a template program so once you have set up the labels, save them, then you can just reprint them when necessary. If you get the ones that have 4 to a sheet, you would get double what you are doing right now.
Eye roll. Someone gifted me a Milwaukee 12 volt 'Hatchet' chainsaw thingy a few years ago. Went to see about a replacement chain today and am blown away at what they are asking for a 6" chain. Makita will sell me a 10" chain for I think $11. I'm logged in as a distributor...
New tank inbound. Not happy spending the dough on it but received a free to me lightly used Echo tiller today that looks to only need a little freshening to be working.
I don't really have much use for this but have a hard time turning down a free tool that was going to be discarded. Found the problem. Lots of gunk. Cleaned it up and got the unit to fire but it's not wanting to take tune. Can't be bothered to fight with it so replacement carburetor on the way. It also needs a new lower engine cover but will wait and make sure it'll run well before ordering. Pulled the muffler and found piston to look fine for service. Compression is ~120 which I'd like to see higher but it does seem to want to run.
Prepping the 550 for new tank. Managed not to tear up the fuel lines. This is where the leak is. There are some epoxy type 'fixes'. Since I plan to send this one on, I want it to be jank free. And of course I forgot to also get a new deflector limiter that's not included with tank. Old one is crumbling. Husky making some bank on these at $10+ each...for a round piece of foam. Two items 'on the bench' now. I hate having stuff apart, waiting. Both should be back together mid week next week.
Finishing up the HL splits. Final yield. It'd have been four pallets if I hadn't needed to level up the existing stack. Oughta fill the stove a few times. Will start on the Hickory soon. Bucked a little cherry and piece of sugar maple...trying to get back to making some splits for the woodstand. Had a few bags move last week. Poser. Chillin on the sandbar Saturday for a bit. Center got blowed out by the crick after the last 3" rain. Hauled a second load of stuff I couldn't sell off the woodstand to my buddy's mom's house. Cutoff chuglies and shorts. Made her a nice jenga pile. lol Also made a little trip Saturday morning. Sneak peak.
That will sit for either 3 or 4 years...I've lost track. It can be burned at 1.5 years with best conditions. The last I burned was some 2.5 year stuff. Got more in the stacks somewhere I think. Have only ever bought one saw used. No agenda, just how I roll. Speaking of which I had taken advantage of the one day 15% off at a local independent dealer. Walk up to the counter and tell clerk am interested in a 620, ask if anyone else has come in to buy stuff at discount...I get that 'wtf you talkin bout' look from clerk. They did not know that they were listed for the sale on Echo website for 10/31/26. Initially I was brushed off. Explained I had waited for the sale to purchase so I did not need to spend money at Home Depot (basically same price as the 15% off all the time but I prefer to spend at independent if practical). I had to fish through my phone on the web to show him that they were indeed listed as having a sale. Clerk gets the bossman... 'sell it to him'. I explained that I wasn't there to make any trouble or try to get over and that if it was gong to cause any trouble for them to recoup the discount from Echo that I could live without the saw. A few minutes later I was walking out with a 620p/20". $628.15 was the pretax price. Mods are already inbound (air filter upgrade, 72dl guide bar, new jet so it can be properly tuned).
Good deal. Yeah it'd be nice if OPE dealers knew what was going on sometimes. Years back I kick myself for not buying a 2511 top handle as it was MSRP $399 at the time. Just by chance the Echo rep was there and offering deals on their OPE. Not sure how much, but its a $600 saw now. Just bought my barely used one for $300. Sweet little ripper it is.
I vividly recall meeting the 2511 first time at Bunyan years ago. Didn't get to cut with one, just fingered it up a bit. So tiny!! At the time, the asking price was 'high' for such a small unit. I was blindsided, encountering it at one of the booths like....WTF is this?! I already had a Echo top handle (still do) so never really considered them. The 2511 will hand my 3400's azz to it, but has done fine for me for many years.
Yeah I wasn't looking for one either having a Husky top handle and possibly my Stihl 194 at the time. I acquired a 201 top handle the following year for a screaming deal at the time. I cant say no when a deal screams at me! Congrats on the new saw and be sure to post pics of it in action!
Echo tiller is alive. I couldn't figure out any way to hang onto it while tuning so... I think the gas I got from our Rental is a bit heavy on oil cause I can't get it to stop smoking. 550 tank will be waiting for me when I get home tomorrow.
My phone showing me pictures of when my Jonsered was prettymuch spanky new. Took it to a buddys to buck a log he didn't have enough saw for.
