Felled the last big tree at my yard cut this afternoon. 18-19 " DBH English oak. Variety of white oak based on the leaves, but no oak smell when I sniffed it. Got it all limbed and bucked except the trunk. May bring the hydro there tomorrow and split the dead sugar maple I cut two weeks ago and bring to my house to stack. I store a couple cords here for local customers.

Checked out a new cut this morning. Same source I've been getting wood from since April. Fourth location. New house going in. They were prepping for the foundation so cant get in there for a week or two. Fine by me as I still have a load to cut at their other location. I've scored maybe a couple dozen loads of wood from them.

Nicely staged too for an easy back in, cut, and load. All Goldilocks sized wood and smaller. Black birch, tulip poplar, some sugar maple and chestnut oak in the pile. Probably wont even need a bigger saw. 4-5 truck fulls my preliminary guess. A little farther than normal (25 minute ride back to storage) but for quality wood and ease I don't mind. Pics to follow.

That was the oak from my going against the lean thread.

Ill gift Eric exotic firewoods and smoked cheese. Besides, the pics look better when he posts them.

Brought the hydro to the yard cut and split the rest of the red maple. With some ash it totalled a bout a quarter cord. I did a dumb dumb thing.:emb: Had to move the truck after I parked in the yard and hit the 2511. :headbang: Had taken it out of the bed when I arrived to toss in splits and didn't see it as I was backing up. Cracked the handle and had to reengage the chain brake mechanism. Saw starts but races. Must've bent something inside.:picard:

Headed to storage. Sorted and stacked the general cordage. The rest was for bundle inventory.
Ran a few errands and headed back to work the dead maple. Quarter cord split onto the truck that came back here. I then sectioned up the big trunk rounds with the hydro in vertical mode. Ill split those soon.

Not one of my proudest moments. Hopefully not too badly damaged "under the hood" as I really like the saw.

Don’t be too hard on yourself the loggers, a grandfather father and son trio say it averages once a year

Back to the yard cut yesterday. Split the rest of the dead sugar maple onto the truck. Not quite a face cord. Ill get it stacked tomorrow here.

Worked on the new rack Friday at storage. Basically a 12'x 6' monolithic pallet with end supports and a center divider. Framed with 2x10 & 2x6 topped with 5/4 decking. All reclaimed lumber. It will hold two cords in half cord increments.

I did not expect to be posting this BUT two weeks ago I got a text message from my neighbour asking me if I wanted all the wood from a tree (holm oak) that they had just cut down. Not only do I get much more sunlight now without that tree BUT I got a nice score of wood; neighbour saved on getting rid of the wood and chipped all the smaller branches for their garden.
I carried it all with my wheelbarrow and processed it with my bow saw, some splitters and a hammer (yes even the heftier bits).
    These are the mid-sized branches

And this is trunk and the bigger branches

Finally this is all stacked (which is not my strength). Ideally I would've liked it to put it in my roofed woodshed but it is currently packed.

Happy with the score, the exercise and helping out the neighbours.

Good to see all these scrounges and love to hear your bow saw made it possible. My old man’s bucking saw of choice was a stihl 026 and bow blade. Gravity did all the work.

Got all the dead sugar maple stacked here today. Need maybe 1/6 of a cord to fill up the one cord rack. Ill keep two cords of bulk wood here at my house to deliver later in the Winter.

Hit the wood yard and did more work on the rack. Its ready for some wood.

Headed next door and moved some wood to make room for the mound of cottonwood splits I need to move. Letting it bask in the sun for the next few days. Assembled some bundles. Brought a few bundles of cherry and kindling back home for restocking of smoker inventory.

Ill hit the yard cut and finish up the oak tomorrow.
