Recent wood was purchased. Tossed a few bags from the shed in to refill last night after mowing. Gotta weedeat tonight. Need to stack. Now need to make a dozen fresh bags. I got what....a week and a half left of after work light? Sigh. If anyone was paying attention when I changed from the orange bags to the purple ones for better UV resistance....the purple ones do hold up sustantially better.
I tried the mesh once. Even out of the sun the red ones ripped too easily even though I was gentle with them.
I moved from bags to wrapping pretty early on. I would hate to bag. Without looking at records, we did about 3,500 bundles this year. Get the local grocery store and KOA has been a boost.
I don't ever want to get to the point where I *need to switch. I saw some fancy computerized wrappers at Bunyan. Wandererd over to their stand before realizing that they were selling something way above my need$. Heck the hand crank units are $6/800 on the bottom end. My stand is mainly just for my overrun wood. A hobby. I was upset a bit that I had to spend money to even build the stand (not much but some).
LOL!!! You sound like me. My jigs are made from scrap lumber as are my log racks and bundle shed. Plastic wrap comes out to .15c per bundle and now I need to have labels on them as the state is giving my customers a hard time. Im trying to figure the cheapest way out.
Can you cop out and put a little sticker on them with a QR code that will take the user to a 'label'? Ya, I'm basically running my little show outside of regulatory agencies of any sort. No more so than any of the bulk sellers around here.
Having step daughter print two "inserts" on one 8.5 x 11" sheet of paper so I'll get two. She owes me a favor so other than cost of ink and paper I'm on the cheap. I checked at a couple office supply places and too expensive for this cheapskate.
Been feeding the two circled for about 7 years now. They are unable to migrate. The center one will greet me with a 'recognition call' as it waddles to me. (long low call) Most of these others are 'out of towners'. Noticed a new handicapped one in the crowd today. Bad limp like it's doing a monte python skit. It'll probably assimilate into the small group that are unable to leave this place for better pastures. Those Mallards put the Canadians to shame in their ability to hoover up cracked corn. My regulars know me by sight. Corn budget is about 2 lbs per day. 3-4lbs when snow is on.
Same female that greets me, middle center, 2022. A very large crowd 2023. 'Many of you are going to be disappointed' lol The river just alongside my work is a very busy stop for migratory waterfowl. Mostly Canadians and Mallards. We get Cormorants and I have seen a few Teals and Greebs before. One albino male mallard that I did not get pics of. They come and go...the 'stragglers'. The two circled females have been around the longest. 'Broke Beak' and 'Old Man' are two that are gone that I miss seeing. I had to make special long walks to feed Old Man as he was for sure elderly and couldn't get to the feed before the others ate it all. Had to feed Broke Beak out of a little tupperware bowl because 3/4" of it's upper beak was snapped off and it couldn't grab corn off the ground. That was the most grateful goose I have yet fed. It would wait patiently for it's bowl while I threw corn to the others before setting it down so it could eat in peace. (these birds are 'mean' to each other when food is around...even 'allies'...pecking order is real)
