Are you talking about a bottle jack?

I had to look it up, out of sheer curiosity. To me, with construction work in my past, a "pump jack" is a device used to move a walkboard up and down the side of a house on twinned 2x4 posts, for siding work and such. I couldn't figure out what "a smaller one" would be like.

But it turns out that a Jensen 12w beam pump jack is a completely different animal, and looks something like this:

It always amazes me what I learn on this site. The broad backgrounds represented here keep it interesting!

That is what I was picturing... I'd like to know what Screwloose is thinking of doing with it though! Have a mini well that needs pumped? Or yard art...?

LOL, and you would be correct, but after 33 years, I just shake my head and go with it.

Pretty much yard art......... unless I found one that includes the well...... shipping a well would be rather problematic though.

One a little bigger could make a cool wood splitter.

I watched one change hands twice then go back to original owner over the course of about 15 years. LOL A buddy got it from his boss (oil man) when he moved from his place. Buddy had in his yard for a few years, then my boss decided he needed one and bought it from my buddy. Fast forward some years and the original owner bought it back from my boss. :nerd: Can't recall the maker. It had about a 6' top beam on it and was green and orange.

Pumpjack is standard vernacular here. Have heard them referred to as Nodding Donkeys before but not around here.

Typically any system using a down in the hole cylinder with a sucker rod uses a jack on top to operate it. Even if it is a hand operated "pump".
The construction pumpjack sure makes searching for a well pumpjack difficult.

Gotta love the English language and it's multiple meanings for the same word or words.
