What's up today (bullchiting) thread.

My last Briggs motor on my splitter was replaced by a Honda that came off … you guessed it a pressure washer

 

I've bought a couple/3 used Honda engines off FBMP here lately for pretty darn cheap...2 of which were GX390 former pressure washer engines...the 3rd one was a GX340 formerly on a concrete buggy, and then a lil 5-6 hp Kohler that came along with a log splitter project. I don't need them all right now, but when the price is right, gotta jump!
The one you have to watch is buying engines that were on a generator...those generally have tapered shafts, but there are adapters to convert from tapered to straight...just have to make sure that things will fit with that adapter in place.
While on my lil Honda buying spree this summer one came up for sale that said it had a 6:1 gear reduction built in...I never knew that was a thing, but when I looked it up, sure enough, there it is...the price was right on it, but I didn't have a project to use it on right then, and it sold pretty quick anyways...kinda wish I had grabbed it though, thinking I could have used it to build a homemade gas powered capstan winch for a log hauler trailer project...

 

brenndatomu Buy motors aww no; not unless needed specific motor for project.. too many people give them away when they won’t start.. it’s $75 dollars to diagnose charge and parts around here. So most just go buy a new one and leave it free side of road.

Nobody gives away Hondas around here...especially the larger models of GX series

 

I have some fleece shirts and lined pants that are twice that age and will still wear them-but only around the house or maybe going for a walk. They are "ok warm" but not rugged; if I had worn them for work, they would have been destroyed the same season I got them.

Cheap flannel? I think the last time I bought one of those was in early 80's. Some shirts called flannel are nothing more that a printed pattern and way too lightweight for any type of work application.

I have found carhart (for one brand) to make a good heavyweight flannel that holds up and you won't get them "cheap"

If fleece works for you and your lifestyle, that's great!

Apparently Honda was motor of choice on pressure washers and some lawnmower (husky) comes to mind.. I have 3 up here now… I never really checked sizes

Unless a full-blown commercial grade unit, often times you see the GS (light commercial/heavy homeowner grade) and GC (residential grade) engines on pressure washers

Absolutely, having worked with contractors for years only the rookies buy consumer grade. All my friends that count on tools prefer GX or GS on diesel it’s Kubota or yanmar

 

I have told this story here before, but the GX340 on my lil forklift was on a self-powered dump trailer I bought...the guys doofus employee ran the engine out of oil and locked it up (oil alert bypassed, cuz, well it was making the engine shut down ) I put a new engine on the hydraulic pump and resold the trailer, then put some fresh oil in the old locked up GX340...worked the crank back n forth with a breaker bar (nothing to lose, right?) it broke free and eventually turned freely...I fired it up and it has never missed a beat since, no knocking or anything...it's probably been 8-10 years now.
What's weird is that it doesn't use oil, so not sure how they ever ran it low, maybe just forgot to put oil back in after an oil change attempt!? I dunno...but it all worked out good for me!

 

I've got just a "teeny" bit of room left for firewood in the wood room now. I have been stacking it full to the gills by filling up the entrance to it the last few years.

It's kinda nice leaving a little room to be able to reach into the wood room and grab the kindling. Maybe I'll just leave weel enough alone.

The heat broke today because it is DUMPING rain. There's a tiny little cell parked right over my house for the past 20 minutes. The radar doesn't seem to be updating so I have no idea how much longer we have left....radar makes it look like it isn't even here yet.

I attended that yesterday (Friday). It was pretty disorganized, I thought, but it was their first day ever, so hopefully today was better.

It was interesting to see some of the equipment, and I also saw first-hand that the smaller firewood processors don't deal well with even slightly crooked "logs". Everything they were running through was what I would call "poles", 10" or less in diameter, and they spent more time handling the wood at the wedge or clearing the mini-conveyor than if they were processing it by hand. Wasn't impressed with that one. There's seldom any straight stuff here, unless you like tulip poplar for firewood.

If they have it again next year, I'm hoping it will be better, and that there will be more good informational seminars attached to it, as well.

The Tajfun equipment is made in Slovenia, even though the name sounds Oriental. If the Tajfun tractor skidding winch I bought last year is any example, it is very well made equipment. But it does run comparatively expensive compared to other winches, and has less of a US presence than some of the other winch brands.
