    Gripson... crimpson... I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you're talking about Crimson Maple? If that's the case then you're asking about a cultivar of Norway maple and yes it's decent. Better than red maple but not as many BTU's as sugar maple.

    As Eric stated crimson maple is a hybrid of Norway maple, and yes its decent firewood for sure.

    I really like Norway Maple. It dries nearly as fast as soft maple, usually splits super easily, and gets you most of the way to sugar maple heat. It’s the closest thing to an Ash replacement I’ll likely see in my area in my lifetime.
