Measured out the stacks yesterday. I have about 25 cords cut/split/stacked. I assume between the logs I have and the logs I am committed to when the trees are cut for family I’ll have another 25 cords to process. Oops. Time to decide if I sell some or just top cover it!

Seems like it comes in waves. I had 9 trees cut down for a new build, then family told me they are having 9 trees cut down and are saving the logs for me. Maybe I’ll sell enough to buy another muscle saw
That is a beautiful problem to have! If my memory isn't totally shot, I'll say your amount matches the largest I've ever had. Congratulations. Personally I would never consider having a 10 year supply on hand, so long as it is split, stacked and top covered properly. For me that means I like 40-50 cord are not out of line. Good luck with your decision. I only wish I had that much firewood here.
Having somewhere around 6 years of BTUs waiting to bus used, I too get the urge to sell some each fall once I see people running around with trucks and trailers of firewood. But then I think, what kind of shape will I be in to replace that firewood in 3-4 years????
I had to look up "too much". OMG. If you have storage, leave them log length and arrange them so there's air flow underneath. Lay them on a couple of runners. No cover. Cut them as needed.
I considered rearranging the log stack to do that. My guess is I just process it slow and steady, just like the last time I had a lot of logs.
Same here but your just supposed to resize them like it's the easiest thing in the world. You just have to look up a couple YouTube videos and voilá! (said by several forum members).
This would be best, we used to stack logs on runners, they would get wet in between and start having fungus/rot problems. Even tried just a top cover, not much better.
Mean Joe - Many years ago a elderly family member once told me that ( son you never have too much firewood) as mother nature can be very unpredictable with winter weather
Agreed. Haven’t run out from having too much yet! Still might sell a few cords, maybe ahead of winter 2027. By then I’ll have some extra wood that’s been drying for 2 years so I’ll feel alright about selling dry wood vs what’s usually available around here. Wet and fresh…
The most rotten tree unfortunately got put in the back of the stack where I can’t cut it up first. I’ll save what I can when I get to it in a few months. My goal is to have it all split and stacked by the time it gets hot next year. Neighbor offered to saw a couple logs for me on his mill. Might set aside a nice white oak log to have a few boards made up.
