    I live in the Hocking hills on 45 acres of forest. Probably 75% of the wood I cut is hickory. I have hickory any age you want it. I have 9 bitternuts on the ground and one shagbark right now. Most are over 30" at the base and at least 70 ft' long. I have at least 3-5 more bitternut standing dead. My forest was last cut in 1953 and my trees look like telephone poles. Nothing under 25" and very tall and straight. Most have been uprooted in windstorms because they are so tall and the tops act like sails and lever them out of the ground.
