There have been fire restrictions and therefore wood cutting restrictions on the forest lately until the past few weeks. We’ve had some good monsoon rains, and the restrictions have been lifted, which allowed me to get out and do some more cutting at reasonable hours without having to get up at the crack of dawn. Was able to find a nice dead standing Douglas fir and acquire it.
Oh yeah, ponderosa pine, limber pine, Douglas fir, white fir, spruce, aspen, junipers, even a bit of oak here and there, and others …lots of stuff in the Northern part up by Flagstaff and I think over in the eastern part of the state too in the white mountains if I’m not mistaken.
Nice find! Great that you could go cutting there again! What percentage of the wood you burn is softwood? Find any of that gamble oak you have there recently?
That varies from year to year, but the majority of what I burn is softwood. And yes, I did find a nice gamble oak about two weeks ago. That was a great score for me
I returned to the same spot and got another one todaynothing much compared to some of the hauls that get posted here. I’m more of a slow and steady to build my stacks kind of guy.
