Two juvenile Eastern Bluebirds having a heated discussion about water rights at the local watering hole.
Radar overnight shows that the early bird surge is on track for this weekend. 200 to 250 million birds are likely to be flying across the country the next 2 nights. Saturday night and possibly Sunday night will be the bigger migration nights in our local area. The early season surge is developing behind the cold front in Minnesota. There are also some birds migrating behind the 1st cold front moving through the mid Atlantic. These early season cool spells are leading to early opportunities for migrating birds to start their journey to the south. The peak of the fall migration is in September across the Great Lakes region. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights especially on high migration nights.
A juvenile Mourning Dove stopped by the bird bath for drink of water and to cool off, yesterday's evening temperature was 102 degrees.
I misidentified the bird in the last post above. A local East Texas bird club member corrected my mistake. It is an adult Inca Dove not a juvenile Mourning Dove.
I thought it looked a little weird, but not like I get close ups of the juvenile mourning doves around here
A female Summer Tanager showed up at the birdbath yesterday evening, it's the first one I have seen in 2026. Looks like the birds in this area are starting to travel, fall is around the corner.
