Very nice looking garden!! We had gardens for many years and not only enjoyed working it but gifting a lot of the production to friends,family and neighbors. Had to quit about 10 years ago due to all of the critters getting to the fruits of our labor before we did. Tried several types of fencing and nothing kept them out, only solution was going to be a 7’ tall woven wire or wooden fencing. The deer herd has pretty much exploded here in the last 20 years and with the coons adding to the destruction had to throw in the towel. If you could keep the critters from jumping over the fence the smaller fawns and coons would just go under! Really miss the fresh produce and what we would put up for future use in the pantry. Some will say to just hunt and kill more deer and we do hunt our property but getting the deer numbers down significantly isn’t really an option. Hope your son has better luck and keep us posted! Got a little chain upgrade, maybe this will help on the stump grinding and cutting blowdowns off of stumps when logs are dirty. Got Forester chain from Amazon, it feels ok. The Stihl chain came from FleaBay, it feels sharp... 3/8, .050 84DL for 25" bar
Let us know how it works. I dulled a couple chain on dirty logs yesterday. Not that often I cut skidded logs, stump cut offs etc.
I tried the Stihl Duro chain yesterday. It seems to cut very well, especially for a carbide chain. I'll get a video when we're on the woodyard. Cut white oak in the woods.
Any dirt or mud on the logs? Did you intentionally hit dirt and see of it affected the cutting? Kind of a dumb question I know.

An overdue thread bump...we're still alive and kicking in Dixie. Found a guy that wanted some of the logs we had cut in the spring at the Pines Galore site...we sorted out the good saw logs. One of the piles we did... 1st load was 24 -12'ers... He came back for a 2nd load... Loading a big 8' pine... Big 8'ers on the back, mix of 8' & 12'ers on the front... Next job we had a few days later was taking down a decent size sweet gum, moved it to the woods, then ground that stump and a pecan stump we had cut a few months ago. It needed a little nudge... Winning pair, Kubota L4802 and Stihl XS400... There it goes... Time to get busy with the Woodland Pro grinder... Getting it done, still needed some more passes... We might need to invest in a real metal detector, the grinder is good at finding it...like a sharp, new chain does...in a bad way...found 1 tooth with all the carbide gone and several chipped... a brake shoe, a big hinge and something else, also found some glass. That one is raked and done.. Now the pecan stump... And it's done... I'll try to get some of the teeth when we change them out
We changed the teeth this morning while the grinder was still on the tractor... Here are the bad ones. We were able to reuse the 2 on the far left, moved them up to the inner circle of cutters. A new toof...$20 each... All done... We finished this shed last week, it's a mix of Bradford pear, white oak, cherry, maple...probably some others too. The rows were about even with the pallets. We stacked the front and middle row to the top... Added a few pieces to the back row... Going to process some hickory now. Shed where Blue Samson is needs about 2 rows to top off. Going to take the spalted part to a woodturning friend. He just bought a trailer load of mixed logs from us and had it sawn.

We got some hickory logs out and bucked Friday morning... This pile... Plus some on the forks... Used the XS2511T to mark rounds... Then used the XS400 to buck. Put the Stihl carbide chain on, some dirt and hard wood. Cut pretty good... Got about 45 rounds.... Saturday morning, Miz Carol had to take grandson to eye appointment, so I and it...Blue Samson with the extension table is nice when working solo...load lift, split and stack on table, then stack in shed... Got done about noon, need a few more logs to finish filling shed Logs have been cut just long enough for bark to get loose, scrap tote is full.
Wednesday morning we got busy on the woodyard again. 4 had good hickory logsand about half a fork load of limb wood. Miz Carol didn't get a of the limbs, but it's most of the rounds in the stack. Think we had 3 logs here Marked with the XS2511T Bucked with XS400, carbide chain cut good... For those who wonder why we take the bark off if possible, here's why... A bunch of little borers were fixing to get started... A bit more bark and trash We had just enough to finish shed We then split all the cutoffs from the logs, almost a drum full A friend came down, picked out some logs to buy for lumber. He got 3 white oak, 2 red oak, 3 cherry, a pecan log and a Bradford pear log...we hauled it to a local mill for him We picked up the lumber Thursday morning... Had to move a couple pear slabs to level load...those were heavy The load is ready to go, about 1100 board ft... We helped him get it stacked under his shelter...he had some of that white oak milled into slabs, 3 of us almost couldn't handle them. We went to dinner with them after we cooled down a bit.
