I plan on picking up some IBC totes. In order to maximize the trip I want to put 4 in the truck bed and six in the trailer. In order to get four in the truck I would have to leave the tailgate down. Can I do this and still be able turn without damaging any thing?

Depends on the length of your trailer tongue.

Yep, need to see the trailer Dave...any part of it as high as the tailgate? I would think the only part that would be an issue is the trailer jack, if it doesn't fold down. It's a drive, but you are welcome to borrow my trailer, I am sure it can hold all ten

My tailgate hits the jack handle on my trailer on my old truck...not sure about the new one yet. Keep in mind that even if it doesn't hit on flat ground it could if the truck angle goes uphill.

will they still fit and not fall off if you simply remove the tailgate?

I had to get a hitch extension to clear the trailer jack...never had issues this way.

FWIW, I left the tailgate down while backing my trailer. Yes, it did clear the jack stand with no issues.

But, when I tried turning and also with the rough terrain in the woods, the jack stand left quite an impression along the top of the tailgate.

Had to remove the tailgate and leave it at a bodyshop for repairs/repainting.

All because I thought it would be a good idea not to close the tailgate.......:headbang:

Ha! Pretty much the same thing for me.

I was backing up a trailer for scrounging firewood (of all things) out in the woods!

I decided to skip it for now. In the last week I managed to score 5 for free.
