The little sow and piglets were brave the other day...out in early evening... We leveled out the spot and dug 2 more holes with corn in them. This pig is about out of sight in the hole This hog was tired of rooting, I guess...took a Hopefully, their days are numbered, the trapper is supposed to come down tonight for the weekend.
"Shoot 'em now, Lije, shoot 'em now!" One of the many fine quotes from The Outlaw Josey Wales, for the few uncultured folks that may be here.
We learned that if they have absolutely no clue that anything is up, if you drop the first one instantly in it’s tracks with no fussin and squealing the others are shocked enough that you can get a couple more if you’re ready and good.
One time in Texas my buddy Brad was walking in to his stand early evening and there was a couple sows and piglets out early. He dropped what he thought was the lead sow instantly in her tracks and everything scattered. So he went up to drag her off to the edge of the clearing when the piglets started to filter back out of the brush into the clearing ( food plot). He just froze for a few moments to watch. About then one of the piglets came right up and almost crossed his boot. He reached down and snatched it up with his bare hands. About then, said piglet commenced to squealing. Not wanting an angry mama hog to show up, he wrung its neck with his bare hands. Turns out the little one was indeed a male. So the story still occasionally arises about the time Brad used his bare hands to strangle a wild boar!!! When in reality the piglet would have fit whole in one of those old school lunch boxes with the dome top. Ever since then we’ve referred to the piglets as “ lunch box pigs” true story
Looks like the guy is a no-show. He said Wednesday he was packing. Tried to call twice last night, ignored my calls. Who knows...
A couple pigs have found our deer feeder.........not good at all... So far, the coons and deer haven't minded the swine in the 'hood... A doe and her yearling... A decent buck came for the buffet after the pigs were there. Have to build a trap soon.
Well, we started planting another food plot this evening after work. Made a few passes, got to the end and saw some black objects in the food plot next to it...the sow and 6 piglets were out. I called Miz Carol, she was at our son's house close to where I was planting, he said his 7mm-08 was sighted in. Drove the tractor to his house, got the rifle and drove back to the end of the plot... They were at least 150 yds away, 1st shot missed, she ran in the bushes and came right back out...guess I was the lucky one next...
You do know that you can mount a gun rack on that tractor? Nice chootin’. bacon, bacon, bacon Best tell your son, his scope is off. Lol Maybe the coyotes will get those little ones. Glad that you eradicated at least one of the beasties.
