Which new or used saws would you like to get in the future?

The only new saw I'm interested in at this point, is the Stihl MS300C. Who knows when it'll be available here in the USA, or if I'll even like it. Hopefully Husky comes out with a similar saw as well.

Someday I'd like to get a Husky 357XP "or" 365 Special and a Jonsered CS2156 "or" CS2165. If I get a 357, I'd try to get a 2165. If I get a 2156, I'd try to get a 365 Sp.

What saws would you guys like to get?

Husqvarna 372 to go with my two 450s. It would get a 24” bar and be reserved for felling and bucking where the 18” bars on the 450s are too short.

Edit to add, probably used as I wouldn’t use it enough to justify new.

 

Old muscle saws. I’m running an Echo 610evl and an Echo 750evl for my big saws right now and it’s so much fun. They run lower RPM’s than my newer Stihls and I think I eat less shavings that way. Hard to stall them out. Just a ton of smiles every time I use one.

 

You should scratch the 357 itch. I bought mine new 2011ish and still love it. It was an awesome saw stock for many years till I got connected with the AS chainsaw guys and went to my first gtg. Running ported saws changed the game. Had DozerDan port mine and it’s been flawless ever since. I haven’t done anything to is aside from fuel line/filter, air filter and spark plugs. Oh, I did replace the rubber oil pump hoses to stop the weeps. It was a factory hot rod but porting made it 30-35% faster yet.

If I had a wish list, the newest 564 would be on top.

 

The Stihl MS400.1 and like you the 300c in terms of new saws. Possibly a Husky 564 too. I've come close to buying an Echo 4910. No longer made but a cult following among saw gurus.

Used I wouldn't mind finding a Stihl MS200 top handle at a good price. Maybe one of these years get my 241 and/or 400 ported.

 

Stihl 400, Echo 1201, Stihl 201 rear handle, Stihl 064, Mac 125/kart saw.

 

If you want a saw, just go buy it. I know I would.

 

The STIHL MS400 is a great all-around saw if you only want to own one saw. I use a much smaller saw for limbing out tops because it's lighter and has 3/8 low-profile chain hand-filed to be "not grabby," but the MS400 does everything else with a sharp chain. I have a stock saw, another with timing advance, and another ported MS400, they're all great. While I have much bigger saws for large hard oak the 400 will handle them also with much less weight to haul around.

If you have "a need for speed" a ported MS660 series saw is hard to beat.

While I like filing chain and tinkering with making saws faster, if you want to run a really fast, reliable stock saw that won't stretch your arms on the way to the log a MS400 is awesome. It's a bit spendy up front though well worth the investment.

The one thing that isn't great is getting OEM STIHL parts IF you don't have a great dealer near by, if that was my case I'd buy ECHO because they're yesterday's technology at yesterday's prices and parts are affordable online.

I'm mostly content at this point. I have the right tool for nearly any situation now. Some saws that have caught my eye for various reasons over the years... oh series, 7310, 390, specific grey Echos, 262's, any of the little 40-45cc rippers, certain old Poulans and Pioneers.

 

Any interest in a used Jonsered CS2166 powerhead? I have one for sale.

 

I may have been before I was able to pull salvage from a couple of abandoned tree service 372xt's. I got spare jugs, pistons, carbs and a whole bunch of smalls.

 

I'm not against getting a CS2166, but I'd rather have a CS2165/365 Sp. I can't do anything for a while, just put a new roof on the house.

If you can't find a 4910, just get the 501P, almost identical twin. You would love it, the torque it has.

 

I'd probably snag a MS261 if I found one cheap enough to motivate me...certainly don't need one though...

 

I might would like a ported XS661, but pretty set on saws for any job we're likely to do, from a XS2511T to a soon-to-be XS461...I think is a great stable of saws to have...

 

Don’t kick me off the forum, but I’m pretty happy with my saws. Keep thinking about a top handle, but am getting by without one.

I understand. I bought it last year with the intent of using it but changed my mind.

 

I know you have a 290 and a clone 661? Any other Stihls?

Have about $500 wrapped up in my whole Stihl pile...bars, spare chains, the whole deal...can't complain.
