I really don't care for the term 'old school'. It denotes something dated. Tradition never goes out of style. Literally two things on this list that I don't do to this day. I was never taught to greet random elders. My thank you notes come in the form of reciprocity or free labor.
I agree that those things are not 'old school' by your definition, but they have largely gone out of style, as well as the 'Big 10', the golden rule, the 'love your neighbor as [you] love yourself'. My wife is much more proper than I....doesn't even like to hear othere swearing in earshot. I have become.a.better man because of her. And, most of those ways were taught me in my past, but didn't seem valued. Some I continued, some Ive brought back, and some I've implemented. Great post! Sca
Reminds me of one of my riding buddies and when he met and began dating his wife decades ago. They went out and stopped at a late night restaurant on the way home which was a common practice back in the day. After all the drinking that goes on, people seem to lose inhibitions and language loosens up quite a bit. Anyway, as the two of them were getting ready to pay their bill and leave, some guy-using bad language-was told to stop. That guy, trying to impress his buddies, didn't take the advice and instead gave some smart a$$ reply while advancing towards him and his date. Bad move!
Ishah has not asked anyone to clean it up since we've been together. But A couple days ago I moved us to a table at a restaurant that was farther away from a couple guys just cussin it up.
