Once it's seasoned, we're gonna try using it for smoking food.

I save the heartwood splits for smoking. Seems even if stacked and covered the borers get into the bark on splits. Plus the barkless dries faster. I try to do that with most of the smoking woods I sell.

 

Some guys/gals say they remove the bark on all wood used for smoking food. I've used it both ways and never noticed a difference. Having it dry quicker without the bark sounds like a good idea.

Been killing it lately.

 

Cherry dries pretty fast anyway. Throw a piece or 2 on the firepit, smells great just to sit around. We take cherry and a little hickory or pecan when we go camping.

 

We haven't gotten any more firewood in a while, weather and having other things to do always seems to get in the way. My grandson who's 6 years old split some of the smaller Black Cherry we got a week or so ago.

He's coming over tomorrow afternoon, so we'll probably cut and split some more. Maybe even shoot a few 22's as well.

Our grandson came over Friday. He mostly played with our littlest grandson, his cousin. Then we went to the Tractor Supply and bought another little $25 2 1/4 lbs. axe. We stopped by my dad's and made a pickaroon/hookaroon with his portaband saw. I put a new handle on the splitting maul too.

We grabbed a few sharpening kits as well. I was going to try the newer X-Cut C35 Chains on my 346XP. I was going through our saw stuff, and I have 10 or 12 H21 chains that are all in great shape, so I'm gonna keep using them until they need to be replaced.

 

Works pretty good.


I was board so I felled and skidded these two little dead Ash Trees.
