Normally I'm in the timber dumping trees over for my farwood but yesterday I came across some red elm in the ditch with a free sign besides it. Out came the saw and filled the truck bed. Left about another load with the intention of going back but lifusinteruptus came knocking so maybe tomorrow if any is still available. Even around here people shy away from Elm but I love the stuff.
Free elm is good. In fact I’m on my way out the door right now to get some that was offered to me about 2 hours ago
I guess she meant that she wanted it gone immediately. By the time I got there it was already gone. I drove out to the town tree dump and there it was. I didn’t grab any of it though. I’m guess I’m getting more picky
Good to see ya, ol buddy! I love elm as well, yes someone it is a major PITA ta split but it puts out good heat. The clinkers it makes (at least for me here in central PA) seems a bit excessive but it's all relative. Hope ya get the rest of that score.
Nice grab. Had a score I checked out a few weeks back that had some decent red elm mixed in. Would've had to schlep a bit it to the truck so I passed on it. Not a huge fan of elm in terms of the stringiness. I've had it split rather clean in some cases. Ill take it now if an easy score. My current cut has some American elm logs in the mix. I've given rounds to a couple friends who will let them sit for a year before splitting. They may be getting more. What is your normal MO for splitting elm Butcher?
