Yes the video is real time. It does run fast for wood. But these farm drag elevators would move a lot of grain. The video was at about 1/3 throttle. I can run it slower. But need to go fast enough to not burn up the clutch in the gear box.

    Looks awesome Doug!!
You may want to see about gearing it back just a bit though.. It'll work as is, but will not have as many bad jam up moments at a more conservative pace.. It would be perfect for grain though...

I would be concerned if someone were to get caught in this conveyor.. How quick could you stop it with a gas engine? With electric you could place stop buttons at intervals along the conveyor..

Haha. Ray, I have to admit that made me chuckle as I work in a very safety conscious company but grew up around farm machinery. ;)

No reason you couldn't rig it the same way. Even simpler to wire as you only need to ground 1 wire to kill the engine.

MM that is an option.. It's safety crazy where I work.. Lots of it makes sense and who wants to get hurt anyway? Years ago I had to work live electrical (up to 480VAC) all the time and man it was nerve wracking knowing one false move could be my last one! Now they fire you for it lol..

I had a guy loose a glove, lucky it wasn't his hand. Was a "dum dum"... You know the type, could screw up a wet dream even.
Was grabbing the logs off the end and he stuck his hand in the wrong place.

At a normal speed they are pretty safe. I'd gear that conveyor down to 1/2 that speed.

Doug, are you going to build a plywood hopper to toss the wood into to absorb part of the impact? It would be especially handy if being feed by more than one splitter. Will also decrease the risk of pieces getting caught.

It is nice to be able to haul 7 ton of wood in one trip. Almost 33000 lbs truck tailer and wood.

Yes it is a 2014 RAM 5500. I don't cross state lines and so no USDOT numbers. The combined tow rating is something like 37500 lbs. The truck has the max tow package with 4.88 rear end. I did get my Class A CDL for this truck.

Iowa farm truck not for hire. Not interstate and no hazardous material. The truck is my wood hauler.

The RAM 3500's have a GVWR of 12200 lbs. Don't see the non commercial trucks having DOT numbers. I have talked to IA DOT. If I travel out of state for fun I take the RV.

I could get a DOT number but it is not recommended. It would be a public record with my SSN out there for anyone to see or grab. I would need to form a LLC to hide my SSN

I thought you where selling firewood with that setup. Commercial = f0r money. For hire is different.

Yes. I have DOT #. No SSN needed that I can remember, thought I don't get too worried about giving it out. I was in the .mil many years. Name, SSn, date oin pretty much every piece of paper.
