    The leaves check out but every picture online shows a single trunk and a uniform canopy. This tree has 4 or 5 trunks coming out of one stump.

    Basswood/Linden are prolific stump sprouters. I have seen this on American basswood in the forest and on planted little leaf linden street trees.

    Now that you mention it, the basswood I had cut down in 2019 had sprouted like that. I didn't know what it was at the time and FHC IDed it. Ill have to check it. Just into the woods by my shed.
